Over the past 18 months, we’ve been focused on transforming and developing the Smart Aggregates quarry. It’s been a significant undertaking, but we’re now reaching some major milestones and expanding our product capability considerably.
Our secondary crushing plant is now fully operational, allowing us to produce in a single pass:
• 40mm fines for our wash plant
• AP65
• AP40 to M4 specification
• AP20 feedstock for roading chip and builder’s mix production
We’re also producing Clean 40 suitable for KiwiRail and switchyard applications, along with certified railway ballast as a Clean 65 and under product.
To support future growth, we’ve recently invested in a new Hitachi ZW310 loader fitted with certified Loadrite scales and onboard printing capability, along with a 30-tonne TSAB mobile screening plant. This equipment is increasing production efficiency while providing additional feedstock for our washing operations.
The next major milestone is the commissioning of our wash plant. Once operational, we’ll be producing:
• 5mm washed sand
• 5–10mm drainage chip
• 10–20mm drainage chip
We’re also awaiting the conversion kit for our McCloskey screening plant, which will become a dedicated roading chip wash plant, enabling us to further expand our product range and supply capability.
A huge amount of work has gone into getting the site to this point, and it’s exciting to see the investments, planning, and hard work beginning to come together.
