What do we do with this EV Charging site?
It is all set to go but there is no interest from ChargeNet NZ or Meridian Energy Maybe I'll ask JOLT? Any other suggestions out there?

We Are Officially Closed

Yesterday, we had to charge an EV using a 3-pin plug—just to give them enough power to reach Arthur’s Pass.

This highlights exactly why the Otira Gorge charger is so critical.

We’re calling on ChargeNet NZ, Meridian Energy, or any charging network: please step up and keep this site running. It’s too important to let go.

EV Charger Update

We’ve received the quote to repair the EV charger. The issue lies with the communication module, which needs to be replaced. The total cost for the repair comes to just over $1,000.

After careful consideration, we’ve decided to mothball the charger for now while we await a response from Meridian Energy or ChargeNet NZ regarding whether either party is willing to take over its operation.

The primary reason behind this decision is the ongoing cost of keeping the charger running.
The capacity charge from the lines company is substantial and unsustainable. On top of that, electricity prices have risen, and if we were to pass these increases on to users, it’s likely they would opt to charge elsewhere—such as at Arthur’s Pass.

ChargeNet has also reinstated its annual network fee of $1,000, after waiving it in previous years.

We’re incredibly disappointed, but we simply can’t continue to operate at a loss.

We’re open to suggestions and exploring alternatives. One option might be to reduce the charger’s capacity to 25kW, which could help lower operating costs.
