Curious kids. Real adventures. Skills for life.

Scouts is where young people try new things, make new friends, and grow in confidence – one adventure at a time!

There’s something for everyone: Keas (ages 5-7), Cubs (ages 7-11), and Scouts (ages 11-14) each offer age-appropriate activities and opportunities to grow.

Adults keen to volunteer are also welcome – it’s a rewarding way to support young people and be part of the action!

Our new term kicks off THIS WEEK, so if you’ve been curious, now’s the perfect time to jump in!

📩 Get in touch to find out more or to sign up. We’d love to welcome you along!

We are so proud of Ollie to be chosen as the Fred Hollows Junior Ambassador! You are an exemplary Cub and we are excited to see how the rest of your Scouting journey continues!

🎉 Meet our 2025 Fred Hollows NZ Junior Ambassador – Ollie Clarke!

Ollie, age 10, from West End Scout Group and Longburn School in Palmerston North, found out he’d won the top honour in our Humanity Awards during a surprise presentation at a Scout camp.

Ollie was nominated by his Scout Group Leader, Christine Halliday, who says he is “the heart of what the Scout Law stands for: doing what’s right, being positive, and having respect”.

Known as someone who quietly gets stuck in, Ollie mentors younger Scouts, helps at fundraisers and working bees, and makes sure everyone feels included. At school, he’s part of the student leadership team and is always the first to spot jobs that need doing – and then do them.

Ollie says winning is “epic”! “I remember a few months ago mum saying something about me being nominated for some award, but I didn’t think I would get it. It’s so cool.”

As Junior Ambassador, Ollie received a certificate and a special goodie bag. Thanks to Specsavers New Zealand, he will also allocate $5,000 to a Fred Hollows Foundation NZ Pacific programme of his choice.

On top of that, Ollie will receive $1,000, thanks to Corporate Traveller NZ and Donaldson Brown Insurance Brokers, to put towards an initiative in his club, school or community that helps make the world around him better.

Last week, our Keas and Cubs got creative with a night full of Lego challenges.

Our Keas tackled two epic challenges—building the tallest tower they could (with some impressive wobbles!) and letting their imaginations run wild in a creative free-build session. From quirky creatures to colourful contraptions, they brought the bricks to life!

Meanwhile, our Cubs got into gear for the upcoming Pinewood Derby by designing Lego race cars. Speed, style, and a few wild designs made for a night full of laughs and engineering flair.

Big ideas, tiny bricks, and a whole lot of fun!

Our Keas (ages 5-8) and Cubs (ages 8-11) meet term-time Wednesdays 4:15-5:30pm and 6:30-8:00pm, respectively. Sign up here: https://scouts.nz/group/west-end-scout-group/ or email [email protected]

Last week, both our Keas and Cubs had their own campfire adventures – and what a night it was!

For our Keas, it was a first-ever campfire experience, and after last term’s rain-outs, we finally broke the curse! They learned all about fire safety and tried damper for the first time.

Meanwhile, our Cubs brought the drama... literally! They put on skits in their sixes, showing off their theatrical flair and keeping everyone entertained with plenty of laughs and creativity.

Our Keas (ages 5-8) and Cubs (ages 8-11) meet term-time Wednesdays 4:15-5:30pm and 6:30-8:00pm, respectively. Sign up here: https://scouts.nz/group/west-end-scout-group/ or email [email protected]
