Too Good for Landfill - Don't Let Good Go to Waste!
Many second-hand stores simply aren't able to test and tag electrical items for resale. That means perfectly good appliances can miss out on a second life. That's where we come in.

At Otāihanga Zero Waste, suitable electrical items are:
✅ Tested for safety
✅ Tagged for reuse
✅ Put back into the community at affordable prices

And if an item can't be reused, we'll make sure it's recycled responsibly.
Whether it's a toaster, jug, lamp, radio, speaker, laptop or small appliance, don't send it to landfill until you've checked with us first.
Together, we're keeping valuable resources in use, reducing waste, and helping our community access affordable household items.

Help Us Fill the Shelves! Every item you donate has the potential to become someone else's bargain, helping local families while keeping valuable resources out of landfill.
We're always on the lookout for electrical items and small appliances like:

If it's suitable for reuse, we'll test and tag it before making it available to the community. If it can't be reused, we'll recycle it responsibly.

♻️ Since opening, together we've diverted more than 400 tonnes of material from landfill - and that's thanks to the incredible support of the Kāpiti community.

Every item dropped off, reused, repurposed, or recycled makes a difference.

Whether it's an old toaster, a box of cables, a laptop, or something you're no longer using, don't throw it away until you've checked with us first.

Did you know many of the electrical items donated elsewhere end up with their cords cut off and sent to landfill?
At Otaihanga Zero Waste, we test and tag suitable items for reuse, giving them a second life in our community. If an item can't be reused, we'll make sure it's recycled responsibly.

Many op shops aren’t able to test electrical donations - meaning your items can end up in landfill or have their plugs cut off!
Bring them directly to us! At Otaihanga Zero Waste, we:

Performance test and tag & test donated electrical items
If they pass - we make them available in our shop
If they don’t - we recycle them responsibly
Less waste, more reuse, and better outcomes for our community!
