Last week, Janet formally accepted her appointment to the Mayor’s advisory council at an official event - and while we may be sharing this a little later, it is still a milestone we are incredibly proud of.

Yesterday, Janet attended a Race Relations Day 2026 event in Wellington, centred on the theme “Whakarongo kia Mārama — Listen to Understand.”

Immigration New Zealand has announced changes to post-study work visa settings, and while this may look like just another policy update, it carries real meaning for Kenyan students and families planning with intention.

Because the real question is never only, 𝘊𝘢𝘯 𝘐 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘺 𝘪𝘯 𝘕𝘦𝘸 𝘡𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘥?

One of the biggest takeaways is that the 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆-𝘁𝗼-𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲, with eligible graduates still able to access post-study work rights depending on their qualification. Immigration New Zealand has also announced a new 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗧𝗲𝗿𝗺 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗮 that will give eligible graduates extra time to transition into employment, and from late 2026, 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗺𝗮 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝟳 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗮𝗹𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗮 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗿’𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲 will also be able to qualify for a Post Study Work Visa.

For Kenyan families, this matters.
