Today I had the amazing honour of meeting James from JWL DRAINAGE LTD . James has had the business for 5 years but has over 15 years experience in the industry. James first started his working life in farming and moved into working for Higgins, and moved up the ladder to foreman/supervisor, to then taking the leap and diving into his own business. James really prides himself on the relationships he builds and connections he makes.
JWL Drainage have made a very reputable name for themselves with approved service connections contractor with the Palmerston North City Council, the Manawatu District Council and the Rangitikei District Council, to be approved by three different councils is proof of the impeccable work he and his team do. Every team member understands the importance of finishing a job well and puts safety first, will reassess things multiple times throughout a project to ensure safety for everyone involved.
Sometimes drain laying means trenching through roads, they only ever want to do the job once and they do everything to communicate and calculate to ensure the best outcome. James is constantly doing things to upskill himself and his team with research and development and keeping up to date with new technology or more efficient ways of doing things.
James' high standards is also shown with his equipment just because drain laying can be messy doesn't mean it has to show on the gear they use, every day they clean off the day's work ready for the next day, just like at work site they make sure everything is as tidy as it can be.
With James' wide range of knowledge they are able to take on complicated jobs and work with solutions in mind, they never ‘’wing’’ anything; everything is very calculated and concise. Today I had the amazing privilege of meeting Tracy and Rodney from Speakeasy Events, an event hire business that fully supports their customers in whatever their needs are. At Speakeasy Events they completely understand the stress and pressure most people are under when organizing an event, they go above and beyond for every customer. Knowing how important this wedding was for the whole family they organized a wedding in less than 6 weeks. Pulling everything to make it work for everyone, and still making it a magical moment for the couple. While also allowing the mother and the bride to have beautiful happy memories together.

Today I had the amazing honour of meeting Nick and Charlotte from Kinetic Electrical - Whanganui Whanganui’s local trusted electricians. Nick and Charlotte prides themselves on their ability to find the right solutions for their customers needs, at Kinetic Electrical they understand that not everyone is an electrician and they can come up with long term solutions that the customer may not have thought of. Nick and Charlotte worked for the previous owner of Kinetic Electrical and built a strong bond, once an opportunity arose to take over the business they took it with both hands, taking over at the very end of 2023. Only new to their role as business owners, they already love working alongside their customers and tailoring each project to each customer's needs. Nick Previously worked in Western Australia doing telecommunications and railway systems, he has a lot of ‘’tools in his toolbox’’ meaning he's got a wide range of knowledge, wisdom and the ability to think on his feet. As a region we are incredibly lucky to have someone with such an immense range of knowledge.
Kinetic Electrical are highly family focussed with two little ones themselves they understand the importance of feeling safe and secure in your own home or place of work. At Kinetic Electrical they specialize in all commercial and industrial needs, and in residential security systems, home wiring and rewiring, switchboard upgrades, communications, heat pumps/air-condition units. They also love doing new build design and installation, and inspections. A truly well rounded and sophisticated business with an immense amount of knowledge that can tackle any electrical challenge.

Today I had the amazing privilege of meeting Malcolm from Capital Long Run, Malcolm started the business 6 years ago. Malcolm has over 13 years experience in the roofing industry and originally started down the path of plumbing but his love for being outside and creating safe shelter for people became so strong he had decided to specialize in roofing. Capital Long Run is a well known roofing company based in Wellington with a team of 6 qualified roofers. They pride themselves on their ‘’ do it once do it right’’ mentality.
Even though Capital Long Run enjoys building strong relationships and connections with their clients, they don't want to see the same roof again. Their high standards and impeccable sense of duty means they finish a job to completion.
Capital Long Run has done over 400 roofs just in the Wellington region, Malcolm feels immense delight when seeing his roofs driving around town, one particular newly developed culdesac is nearly completely roofed by Capital Long Run.
At Capital Long Run they have thought of everything; they have three of their very own G fab trailers which are trailers specially designed to carry roofing equipment and supplies so their client doesn't have to wait on a third party. Today I had the amazing honour of meeting Louise from Smart Exchange Preloved Boutique Clothing , a retail clothing store that stocks pre-loved designer bands. Smart Exchange is a goldmine of pre-loved designer clothing, shoes and accessories in the Hokowhitu village. Louise started the business 11 years ago, after moving from England where she had previously been in the fashion and design industry. Louise loves all things to do with fashion, and knows that she had many designer garments just hanging in her wardrobe untouched for years, that other ladies must be in the same situation. Louise takes garments from all over NewZealand from the bottom of the south island all the way to Northland and everywhere in between. Every item of clothing is on consignment where the donator receives some money back for their beautiful pieces. When you walk into Smart Exchange you are greeted with a very bright, happy person who is willing to help you. Louise understands that not everyone enjoys shopping and goes above and beyond to give her customers the best experience, from styling tips, to figuring out what colours work with your skin tone, to outfitting a full outfit with just a few pieces. Louise loves to reignite that inner sparkle, women walk out of the fitting room in tears of joy, feeling empowered with confidence.
A truly magical shop with climate awareness at the forefront, it is known that we have enough clothes on this planet to clothe the next 2 generations. Louise is changing the narrative about second hand clothing, she is passionate about being sustainable and looking after our future generations.
