Are you physically fit, have reasonable standard of computer literacy and self-disciplined with proven ability to follow set procedures and take the initiative when necessary?

We are in search for ONE team member to be a good company for our ladies in the only Kiwifruit testing lab in South Island, based in Motueka.

ABOUT YOU:
You will carry out routine kiwifruit maturity testing on samples on behalf of our client Zespri. This role is for fixed term - starts on 14th March and runs till May, working variable hours. Hours will be rostered to meet the requirements of the business which operated 7 days a week. You will be required to be available to work a minimum 5.5 days per week (incl. being available for work through Easter & Anzac).

AgFirst Nelson is a horticultural consultancy company based in Motueka, providing high-quality technical advice and solutions to the horticulture sector. We run an independent laboratory and we will require ONE casual staff to start immediately. The position will run for the next 3-4 weeks on casual contract (some Saturday work required).

POSITION AVAILABLE:

LAB TECHNICIAN – process kiwifruit samples and must have a reasonable level of computer literacy.
Must be able to follow set procedures and have attention to detail together with accuracy and precision.
Please note that this position is physically demanding - a successful applicant must be able to repetitively cut fruit samples using a sharp knife.

AgFirst Nelson is a horticultural consultancy company based in Motueka, providing high-quality technical advice and solutions to the horticulture sector. We run an independent laboratory and we will require 5 casual staff to start mid February through to May. Our business operates 7 days a week, we usually roster people for 5 and a half/6 working days per week. Our busiest period is mid-March till end of April, therefore you need to be available to work through Easter & Anzac.

Whether you want to gain some laboratory experience, learn a little more about the kiwifruit season, be part of a team or earn some money this role ticks all the boxes. This is a great role that will suit a range of candidates, no experience required, full training will be provided.

THE ROLE

Seasonal Kiwifruit Laboratory Technicians carry out routine kiwifruit maturity testing on samples on behalf of our client Zespri to determine if samples meet minimum clearance criteria and assess fruit quality.

This role is for a Fixed term period from February to beginning of May, working variable hours. Hours will be rostered to meet the requirements of the business which operates 7 days a week. You will be required to be available to work a minimum of 5.5 days per week.

KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Routine maturity testing on samples that may include:
• Sample Reception
• Sample Preparation
• Weight, Firmness, Colour, Dry Matter, Brix, Seeds
• Fruit Disposal
• Cleaning

ABOUT YOU

• Self-disciplined with proven ability to follow set procedures and take the initiative when necessary
• Team player, able to create a good working relationship with other staff in the team and across the company
• Be physically fit - a successful applicant must be able to repetitively cut fruit samples using a sharp knife and stand for a long period.
• Must have a reasonable standard of computer literacy
• Be flexible with hours of work, recognising that this work is seasonal and has peaks and troughs throughout the season
• Willing to work additional hours as required
• Have your own cell phone for receiving text messages (to receive shift information/communications)

Dates: Approx. NOW – until approx. 4th December

Job type: Full time, casual (usually 8am till 4.30pm). Mon – Sun, up to 6 days a week, with rostered day(s) off. All subject to weather and kiwifruit flower availability. Contract position (paid per kgs flowers picked)

Brief job description: You will be working outside in the orchard collecting flowers from overhead pergola canopy. Piece rate will apply to fast pickers earning more than min. wage – it is a good opportunity to make good money in a short period of time.

Requirements:
• Good level of fitness
• Be reliable and have positive working attitude
• MUST have your own reliable transport to get to work and own cellphone
• People with severe allergies (pollen, bee sting) must acknowledge the risk(s) of flower picking environment to their health
• NZ Citizen/Permanent Resident or valid work visa
• Experience level - No experience needed, we will teach you the most efficient picking techniques.

FRUIT COLLECTOR – collect kiwifruit from orchards throughout Tasman region (from Takaka to Richmond). Must be physically fit and have reliable transport
(gas cost covered by Agfirst). Must be able to use smartphone in the field.
Ideal candidates: flexible with hours of work, recognising that this work is seasonal and has peaks throughout the season.
