Client testimonial

We value the relationships we build with our clients just as much as the projects we help deliver and while every project is different, the importance of open communication and working together remains the same.

In this short video, QUBE director and a Registered Quantity Surveyor Mick, breaks down the concept of Sum Insured, explains the risks of underinsurance, and shares why regular rebuild valuations are an important part of protecting your property investment.

Recently, our Tauranga and Queenstown teams stepped away from the office for our annual mountain and golf day. ⛷️🏂⛳️🏌️‍♂️

It’s a tradition we look forward to every year, although it always seems to come around incredibly quickly.
But more importantly, it’s a well-earned opportunity for our team to take a break from the day-to-day, spend time together outside of work, and enjoy the lifestyle that makes the places we live and work so special.

With spring sunshine and blue skies once again on our side, it was the perfect excuse to swap spreadsheets for fresh air and make the most of an afternoon outdoors. ☀️

Is your property adequately insured?

Many property owners set their Sum Insured figure years ago and never revisit it. But with escalating construction costs, building code changes and constant property improvements, there's a good chance the number on your policy may no longer reflect the true rebuild cost.

In our next post, we'll explain how a Sum Insured assessment works, what's included, and why getting it right matters.

An Elemental Estimate provides a clear picture of likely construction costs during the early design stages.

Rather than estimating the project as a single figure, costs are analysed across key building elements such as structure, finishes, services and external works. This allows budgets to be tested, design decisions to be informed and project risks to be identified sooner.

Cost certainty doesn’t happen by chance, it requires informed financial decisions at every stage.

From establishing realistic budgets early, to reviewing tenders and managing costs during construction, a Quantity Surveyor helps bring transparency and control to the construction process.

A stunning capture by Samuel Hartnett of a project we were proud to be involved with.

Led by our Senior QS, Sam Taylor, QUBE's involvement began during the early tendering stages and evolved into full contract administration throughout the build. Our role included processing monthly payment claims, managing variations, and assisting with the agreement of the final account.

Great projects are never the work of one team alone. It was fantastic to work alongside Elevate Construction and the entire project team to bring this build to completion. The finished result is a testament to the value of collaboration, careful planning, and the collective effort of everyone involved.

Last Friday, our Queenstown team had a great social afternoon ice skating and dinner at Ayrburn Precinct.

Having been involved in the project as project partners, it's always special to return and experience the finished result, seeing the spaces come to life and be enjoyed by the community.

Our team recently returned from Auckland after attending the annual NZIQS Conference held at the new New Zealand International Convention Centre (NZICC).

This year's theme, Rise Together, was reflected throughout the conference, with plenty of opportunities to learn, share ideas, and connect with industry professionals from all over the country.

There was no shortage of valuable insights, but a couple of standout sessions included Matt Ensor's discussion on the future of Generative AI and how it can support Quantity Surveyors, and Lauren Parsons' engaging session on the power of connection and building stronger relationships.

Beyond the presentations, one of the biggest highlights for our team was catching up with colleagues, meeting new people, getting competitive and playing a few games, and hearing different perspectives from across the country.

A big thank you to NZIQS for another well organised event. We're looking forward to bringing some fresh ideas and learnings back to the rest of our QUBE team.

Site visit day.
Overseeing the progress of a project which our team has been involved in since the early stages of planning, alongside a great project team.

From a QS perspective, these visits are key to accurately assessing progress, particularly when completing monthly claims and it’s always rewarding to see a project transition from numbers on a spreadsheet into reality.

We’ll be sharing more photos soon.
