Origin Heritage is mid-way through Stage 1 of the restoration of the Dunedin Municipal Chambers building. Built in 1880 and designed by Robert Lawson, the Municipal Chambers building is being restored as part of a multi-stage heritage restoration project for the Dunedin City Council

The work involves the repair and replacement of stonework, slates, joinery and lead flashings – as well as some design improvements to assist with future maintenance and costs.

In addition to looking after Dunedin’s heritage buildings, restoration projects like this provide a great opportunity for local builders and craftspeople to develop and maintain traditional trades and their skillsets.

The Lindis Pass Hotel is a substantial stone ruin situated beside the Lindis River, north of Tarras.
It was built in approximately 1873 at the site of Otago’s first gold rush of 1861.
After the rush was over the area continued to attract small numbers of gold prospectors through to the 1930’s, although no major finds were made.
The hotel was patronised by the workers from surrounding sheep stations and the growing tourist trade.
It ceased to be a used as a hotel in the 1920’s and in 1950 was purchased by the Rabbit Board as accommodation for its mem, closing permanently in 1951 after which time it slowly fell into its current state.

The site is now managed by D.O.C and is a popular summer camping spot. As part of conservation efforts to prevent further damage a protective roof is being built over the stone ruins.
