Safety on site: Hazardous waste ✅ and ❌

We were lucky to have some seriously insightful team training with Vertical Horizon recently on hazardous chemicals, learning how to identify them and keep our staff and you, our community safe!

With busy season coming up, we wanted to share a handy graphic guide to the types of hazardous waste we can and can’t accept on site, so you know what to expect before you arrive. Perfect for a screenshot or a save for later.

We’ll be sharing some more helpful reminders about other items we can accept at Kaahu’s Nest/ DIY Yard in the coming weeks, so keep an eye out. ♻️

Yesterday we had the immense privilege of celebrating 25 years of the wonderful Liz Stanway at Xtreme Zero Waste.

It’s hard to put into words the impact and mahi Liz has had on shaping Xtreme. She has been part of so much of what makes this place what it is, from the day-to-day mahi and the mountains of compost, to the people, projects, ideas and so much more.

We’re incredibly lucky to have you as such a huge part of the Xtreme whānau for all these years, Liz. Thank you for everything you’ve given and continue to give to this place and our community.

25 years. What a bloody milestone.

Slowing down is a simple, effective way to reduce risk and keep the site safe for everyone.

We are a Waikato District Council site, with clear regulations to follow, and our contract with Council requires us to enforce these.

The site is busy. Heavy machinery, trucks and other vehicles are moving around throughout the day, alongside members of the public and staff. Children can be unpredictable, are not always easy to see, and may not be aware of vehicle movements around them.

The speed limit down the driveway is 30km/h. Once on site (from the metal yard corner), this drops to 10km/h.

This applies to everyone on site - staff and visitors alike - and it is the responsibility of staff to help ensure they are followed.

Please expect to be asked to slow down if our staff see that you are over the speed limit.

We truly appreciate your support in keeping our Tamariki, members of the public and staff safe.

New product alert! 🌱

We’ve got a cheeky new family member in our organics range — meet our new Seed Raising Mix!

A new creation by our soil magicians down at organics!

For the last few years, customers have been asking us to make our own seed raising mix, so we’ve been trialling a few recipes using our own compost and worm castings. We’ve finally landed on a mix we’re really happy with and reckon it’s worthy of sharing with the keen gardeners of Whaingaroa.

If you’re ready to get into planting mode, now’s the time. Especially this week with the current moon cycle, prior to the approaching New Moon! 🌖

Want to find out why this mix is so great for germinating seeds? Swipe across our carousel to find out the benefits!

Come and purchase from Kaahu’s Nest… while you are making the most of our compost sale!
