ICZ Wellington - a fantastic opportunity to learn and share information throughout the zookeeper community. 15 nations represented across 5 continents.

👏🏼 A huge thank you to Wellington Zoo Te Nukuao for hosting!

Great to see such enthusiasm for a profession. Our first ICZ and for a couple it is their 8th! Pretty good going for the Dutch and Australian pair as the gathering is only held every three years!

We are looking forward to taking part in workshops and behind the scenes tours Wellington Zoo the next couple of days.

Warmer weather draws us all out on more dog walks, so much more sniffing and doggy interaction on the cards...

Parvo seems ever-present at the moment, both north and south.

Pets and businesses are at risk and vets are concerned. To safeguard your pets and yourselves, it is vitally important to vaccinate and to practice good husbandry.

Recognising the common symptoms of severe vomiting, profuse often bloody diarrhoea, and lethargy is vital.

Vets advise that if you need to bring your dog in to be seen and tested, do NOT bring your dog into the practice, keep them in the car and notify staff promptly.

Not all vets don’t have quarantine facilities and it is good practice for Kennel owners to have at least two quarantine units on site.

Safe4 Disinfectant Cleaner is effective for Parvovirus quarantine containment and is proven to kill at a dilution rate of 1:50. For an outbreak, clean at 1:10 for contact kill and revert to 1:50 thereafter for maintenance.

Parvovirus and Safe4

Canine Parvovirus (Parvo) is a significant viral infection which is currently quite prominent in New Zealand, as is Panleukopenia Virus (FPLV/FPV) in cats, a different strain of Parvovirus.
