Pleased to host MP Andy Foster on site for a brief visit this week during his time on the West Coast. Also great to show how well our rehab planting is doing. This growth on the contoured and restored Union Creek Rock Stack is now 10 years old.

The site has now been returned to the Department of Conservation and is open to the public. Access is via the Globe Hill track which leaves Reefton from Rosstown Road. The track is suitable for biking, running and walking and is rated Grade 3. It is also possible to access the site from the Alborns Walk. Most people are using e-bikes to get to the site. DOC does not allow vehicle access.

The Visitor Experience features a wide range of artefacts and information panels as well as a shelter with BBQ tables. There is a toilet on site. A number of clearly signposted trails lead off from this area, and it would be possible to spend much of the day cycling around the site. A trip around Fossickers Lake is a must.

Jeff had the drone up this week. If you haven't pedalled/run/walked up the track from Reefton town to the rehabilitated Globe Progress site then with summer coming up, now would be the time :-)

Due to events beyond our control, we have had to postpone the official opening of the Visitor Experience at the rehabilitated Globe Progress mine until early 2026. But the Globe Hill track is open, feel free to head on up and have a look around, and we will do the official stuff next year.

Awesome day on Saturday! Thanks to the locals – and visitors from Tauranga, Nelson and Christchurch – who joined us for the ‘unofficial official' opening of the Globe Hill Track. Huge respect to all those who biked ran or walked there and back. The 'official' opening will be in late November, date to be advised soon.

The Globe Hill Track will be ‘unofficially officially’ opened on Saturday 20 September. Come and join us at the start of the Zig Zag Track on Rosstown Road at 9.30am before heading up to the 10- kilometre Grade 3 multi-purpose track to the rehabilitated Globe Progress mine. We will provide light refreshments at the top, and also a commemorative certificate for being one of the first people to travel the full length of the track before you head back down.

The Rosstown Road end section of Globe Hill Track is open for public access to the Lookout point. WestReef have achieved a great result by reducing the grade as well as clearing gorse and broom. The new track alignment to Globe Progress Mine and the site itself remains closed to the public as OceanaGold and Department of Conservation work through the handover process. We anticipate this process to take until the second half of 2025 which also allows for a deformation period of the new alignment; final inspections, signage installation and windfall clearing. We understand the community are eager to start using the entire Globe Hill Track and we appreciate your patience as we work towards a final site handover. In the meantime, we hope you enjoy the work we have done to date.
