Meet Dai.

Dai moved from Japan to New Zealand in 2008 and joined the Forrest team in 2009. Seventeen years later, he's still a key part of life in the winery.

Although he holds a law degree, it was a passion for food and wine that brought him to Marlborough. Around the winery, Dai is known as the Cellar Master, though when asked, he'll tell you with a grin that he's "the cleaner" โ€” usually found at the end of a water blaster keeping everything spotless.

When asked to choose a favourite wine, Dai didn't hesitate.

๐Ÿท Tatty Bogler Pinot Noir

"I love the smell during fermentation, and in the finished wine I find a real sense of umami. The limestone soils of the Waitaki Valley give the wine a savoury character that really suits my palate."

And one thing we uncovered while talking to Dai? He has been quietly cellaring special wines from each of his three boys' birth years to share with them one day. Naturally, Tatty Bogler Pinot Noir is part of the collection.

Gold in London calls for an extra-long weekend.

To celebrate The Doctorsโ€™ Sauvignon Blanc taking Gold at the London Wine Competition, weโ€™re stretching out the Kingโ€™s Birthday break.

Our office will be closed Friday through Monday, but our cellar door will be open all weekend long, including Monday.

Hereโ€™s to a long weekend, well earned.

Meet Katie, our Cellar Door Manager and a familiar face for many who visit Forrest.

When sheโ€™s not hosting tastings, sharing stories, and talking wine, Katie is busy studying Viticulture and Oenology, now in her second year.โ

Her pick? Forrest Botrytised Riesling.โ 
โ 
โ€œItโ€™s rich and comforting coming into winter, but still beautifully balanced,โ€ says Katie. โ€œThereโ€™s a smoothness to it that makes each sip feel a little bit special.โ€

Her perfect match? Blue cheese. The saltiness and creaminess sit beautifully alongside the wineโ€™s sweetness and bright acidity.
