The 2026 Institute of Rural Professionals Conference and Awards was a pretty special one for our team!

With seven of our team attending, Perrin Ag had a strong presence throughout the conference, and we certainly had plenty to celebrate.

Not only did our Principal Consultant, Carla Muller, take home the 2026 Rural Professional of the Year award, but Senior Consultant Rachel Durie was also up on stage sharing practical insights on the use of generative AI, sitting alongside some big names in the industry! From what we’ve heard, she absolutely smashed it up there, and her presentation was one of the most talked about at the conference!

Two incredible women making their mark in the industry, and a pretty awesome demonstration of the people, expertise and ideas we have across our team.

A great night at Lincoln University’s Food & Fibre Awards on Friday, with our consultants Rhys Dawson and Alyssa Brazendale there to celebrate alongside some of the country’s top Food & Fibre students.

Perrin Ag was proud to be a sponsor and have a stand on the night, giving us a chance to catch up with students, meet some new faces and chat about what a career in the industry can look like.

It’s always great to see the talent coming through and to be part of an evening that celebrates their hard work and achievements.

Working with DairyNZ, Rachel Durie explored how New Zealand dairy farmers are already using AI.

AI isn't about replacing farmers. It's about making the busy parts of farming a little easier. From speeding up admin and improving communication to analysing farm data and supporting decision making, the research shows AI is becoming a practical tool on farm rather than something that's just part of the future.

A huge congratulations to Cameron Beck, this year's John Perrin Scholarship recipient!

Cameron, who is completing a Bachelor of Agriculture at Lincoln University, is a fantastic example of the talent helping shape the future of our industry. The Perrin Ag team have been out and about this week!

Managing Director Lee Matheson joined the panel at the Institute of Directors' Diversification in Primary Sector Governance event in Rotorua, sharing insights alongside some fantastic leaders from across the primary sector.

Meanwhile, consultants Alastair MacCormick and Katherine Martin have kicked off the first of four Kaweka Catchment hub meetings, presenting the Kaweka Catchment Plan – Land Management Framework Story Map to local landowners and getting some great conversations underway.

Great to be out connecting with people and contributing to conversations that support the future of New Zealand's primary sector.

Last week the Perrin Ag team came together to celebrate Matariki! ✨✨

This year's theme is Matariki Herenga Waka: The Gathering of Many Canoes.

Over a shared kai, we took time to reflect on the past year, remember those who are no longer with us, celebrate what we're grateful for, and look ahead with hope for the year to come.

One of the highlights of the evening was hearing everyone share a personal or professional achievement from the past year. It was a great reminder that while we're all on different journeys, we're stronger when we come together to celebrate and support one another.

A big ngā mihi to the team for bringing along something yummy to chuck in the kai cooker, and to everyone who joined in and helped make it such a meaningful evening.

Last week, the team was in Tairāwhiti working with a bunch of engaged farmers and rural professionals, all focused on making positive changes around the indicative transition zone.

Using real Te Arai catchment case studies, we focused on what the 3B overlay actually means on farm and how it can be worked through within existing systems. The key takeaway is that there is no one size fits all solution. The best outcomes are coming from a mix of land uses, combining existing vegetation, targeted planting and practical changes that fit the farm system and enhance long term profitability.
