We’re excited to share the completed Kaweka Community Catchment Collective (KCCC) Land Management Framework!

This has been a great project to be involved in, working alongside KCCC, landowners and project partners to bring together local knowledge, catchment information and practical land management options.

The result is an interactive StoryMap that gives landowners a way to explore their own part of the catchment, understand some of the key challenges and opportunities, and look at practical options that could work for their farm and their goals.

There’s been a lot of mahi and collaboration behind this one, and it’s great to see the framework now available as a resource for KCCC landowners and the wider catchment community.

It’s also a great example of the kind of practical, locally focused work we’re proud to be doing across Hawke’s Bay.

Land Management Framework

“𝐆𝐞𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐛𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐝!”

This weekend marks the start of this year’s Great Aotearoa Matuku Muster, which takes place over a fortnight during the next three months.

At Perrin Ag, we are encouraging farmers to put their dogs away for this muster, head out into a riparian area or wetland on their farm at sunset this weekend, and listen out for the boom of the male matuku-hūrepo, the bittern.

The males give themselves away by booming in a series of foghorn like ‘whoom…whoom’ sounds that can be heard over 1 km away. This booming tells us they are trying to hold territory, they are warning other males to stay away and attracting females.

As one of our rarest bird species, mating is ultimately what it is all about. To help the population increase, people need to know where it’s “going on”.

The awesome team at Wilderlabs have donated a free eDNA sampling test kit to be given away to one lucky photographer for each month of the Muster.

And yes, homemade biscuits were brought along. Because turning up to morning tea empty handed just wasn’t an option. 😂

The 2026 Institute of Rural Professionals Conference and Awards was a pretty special one for our team!

With seven of our team attending, Perrin Ag had a strong presence throughout the conference, and we certainly had plenty to celebrate.

Not only did our Principal Consultant, Carla Muller, take home the 2026 Rural Professional of the Year award, but Senior Consultant Rachel Durie was also up on stage sharing practical insights on the use of generative AI, sitting alongside some big names in the industry! From what we’ve heard, she absolutely smashed it up there, and her presentation was one of the most talked about at the conference!

Two incredible women making their mark in the industry, and a pretty awesome demonstration of the people, expertise and ideas we have across our team.

We’re incredibly proud of you both, and what a privilege it is to have you on Team Perrin Ag!

A great night at Lincoln University’s Food & Fibre Awards on Friday, with our consultants Rhys Dawson and Alyssa Brazendale there to celebrate alongside some of the country’s top Food & Fibre students.

Perrin Ag was proud to be a sponsor and have a stand on the night, giving us a chance to catch up with students, meet some new faces and chat about what a career in the industry can look like.

It’s always great to see the talent coming through and to be part of an evening that celebrates their hard work and achievements.

Working with DairyNZ, Rachel Durie explored how New Zealand dairy farmers are already using AI.

AI isn't about replacing farmers. It's about making the busy parts of farming a little easier. From speeding up admin and improving communication to analysing farm data and supporting decision making, the research shows AI is becoming a practical tool on farm rather than something that's just part of the future.
