Kintail Honey Ltd, a 79 year old family owned business, is part of the Kintail Group of Companies, operating 12,000 hives across four bases in Wairarapa, Hawke’s Bay, ManawatΕ« and Te Puke. We produce, buy, pack, sell and market honey, provide crop pollination services, and export package bees and queens.
We are seeking one experienced beekeeper and a trainee to join our Wairarapa team.

Role Requirements

Sound beekeeping knowledge and proven hands on experience
Passion for bees with strong hive manipulation and hive management skills
Full clean driver’s licence (HT Class 2 an advantage, training maybe given)
Experience with apple and kiwifruit pollination, including hive preparation and movements although training will be provided.
AFB training completed and test passed, if not training will be provided.
Physically fit and strong, able to lift hives with a partner
Team player with good communication skills, self motivation, honesty and reliability
Able to follow instructions and pass a drug test
NZ resident or holder of a valid NZ work visa

Standard hours: 42.5 hours per week
Additional seasonal pollination hours required
Year round employment - no winter layoff

Kintail Honey is a well-established family business that has been operating since 1947. We produce, buy, pack, market and sell honey, provide crop pollination services, breed queens, and export live bees and queens.

We're looking for an experienced commercial beekeeper to join our team based in Takapau.

What we're looking for:
βœ… Minimum 5 years' commercial beekeeping experience (or a relevant formal qualification)
βœ… Team player with a positive, can-do attitude
βœ… Self-motivated and reliable
βœ… Physically fit – heavy lifting is part of the role
βœ… Full, clean driver's licence (HT training can be provided if required)
βœ… AFB Recognition Course preferred (training provided if needed)
βœ… Understanding of workplace Health & Safety
βœ… Willing to undergo random drug and alcohol testing

The role includes:
🐝 Hive inspections for AFB and Varroa
🐝 Varroa treatments
🐝 Pollination preparation and hive transport
🐝 Feeding and managing hive build-up
🐝 Making nucleus hives and mating nucs
🐝 Honey production and extraction
🐝 Package bee production
🐝 Queen and cell production (where applicable)
🐝 Building and maintaining hive equipment
🐝 General beekeeping and related duties

What we offer:
βœ” Full-time position – 42.5 hours per week
βœ” Additional seasonal hours available
βœ” Competitive pay of $27.00–$35.00 per hour, depending on experience
βœ” Year-round employment – no winter layoffs

The Kintail Honey Group of Companies would like to extend a huge thank you to Glenn Coogan from FMG Feilding and Farmlands Co-operative for facilitating a 4x4 Off-Road Safety Course with CARNZ Training Ltd.

Our team gained valuable knowledge and practical skills to help our drivers safely navigate farm paddocks and challenging off-road conditions. The training provided a great opportunity to build confidence, improve safety awareness, and learn techniques that will benefit our staff in their day-to-day work.

We appreciate the support from FMG, Farmlands, and CARNZ Training Ltd in helping us continue to prioritise the safety of our team.
