The rapid swing from an emergent tool with helpful, engaging and addictive properties to sterile, guardrailed intelligence and back again is concerning. Are we adapting safely, or are the financial incentives driving the narrative and ignoring an inconvenient truth?

Millions of people now trust AI with their feelings. Can they trust the companies creating it to prioritize their welfare?

Love AI but use it wisely. Cutting corners can come at a cost. "Frequent AI tool users often bypass deeper engagement with material, leading to ‘skill atrophy’ in tasks like brainstorming and problem-solving”.

Ok, so ChatGPT has been extremely helpful today. In fact all week, and the difference with GPT-4o is noticeable. I'm writing about a chemical product that I've been learning in some detail over the last 2-3 years, and I needed help to update the FAQs for a client.
After a confusion with two very different outcomes relating to ppm and mg/l (which I've since learned are basically the same), I asked it to work out where we went wrong in the questions and answers that resulted in two different mathematical outcomes. Amazingly, we got there together and I now have three simple and factually correct answers to three now much less complex questions. Phew!

Watching NZ football ferns try desperately to score last night was gripping. Late promotions meant that few realised what was happening in our back yard. So it was humbling to see how quickly the country has responding with packed stadiums and heartfelt support. Equal opportunity, recognition and encouragement really do make a difference. We've come a long way in many fields and we can do so much more given the opportunity. So it was great to read this article today on the growing bodies of support and influence available to our women tech entrepreneurs.

Female entrepreneurship is thriving in New Zealand’s technology start-up sector.

I'd be more concerned about identity theft and security (i.e access to bank accounts with "my voice confirms my identity")

Toby Ricketts had been expecting it. He’d already had friends overseas discover they’d been cloned. But that didn't stop the unease when he heard his voice-double speak.

Love tech and meeting new businesses. With the speed of change in this industry, there's always something new to learn. I've just finished a HiTech Awards entry for a little known (locally) NZ headquartered global SaaS company and my head is spinning. Such an exciting space they're in. Nice to have it done before Monday's 5.00pm deadline too - think I'll pop a cork to celebrate that little win. Wish us luck!

The NZ Hi-Tech Awards celebrate New Zealand’s most successful high-tech companies and highest achieving individuals. Originally launched in 1994 as the VSI Electronics Excellence Awards, they have since evolved into a platform for recognising the best all of our technology industries: ICT, electro...

Hasn't NZ tech been working in the virtual age a while now? More so since Covid closed our borders. Or could it be that we're rated top on the list of Silicon Valley doomsday boltholes? (https://www.bloomberg.com/features/2018-rich-new-zealand-doomsday-preppers/). ... Nasa chief scientist says NZ should move into the virtual age by importing ideas people and become the worldwide Silicon Valley. Accordingly, Musk's 42,000 satellites will enable them to work and live here, thereby stoking demand for "high-quality services" and "improve the intellectual atmosphere."

New Zealand should import talented people and become the worldwide Silicon Valley, exporting ideas and innovations, says NASA's chief scientist.
