About Brown Pages
Brown Pages is a Maori and Pacific social, cultural and media innovation company. Based in Manukau, South Auckland, we offer professional development in Māori and Pacific cultural, social and media intelligence.
Brown Pages began as an idea from Te Manu Aute – the Māori communicators’ network – at a meeting at Tūrangawaewae Marae in 1992. Te Manu Aute recommended that a database of Māori in film, television and media should be compiled, updated annually and made available to its people and the wider moving image industry.
In 1993, the first edition of the Brown Pages directory was published. Subsequent editions charted the progress and growth of many Māori and Pacific radio, print and television broadcasters as well as actors and film industry workers.
