Some of the places I get to visit around NZ are pretty stunning, this was the early morning site visit out to Waipamu Station in Whakamaru, a 50 lot farm park development that runs along the edge of Lake Whakamaru.
After being onsite, as well as visiting some more farm parks last week around Queenstown, I think the farm park concept is such a great use of rural land.
50 houses carefully designed around a large 160ha working beef farm, rather than what the Taupo District Plan supports to just carve up land into 10ha lots. Seems like a much more efficient use of land while protecting productive land.

After what feels like months of rain, it's great to have some stunning weather around the District to get out and remind ourselves why we live in this beautiful place.
Great catch up on a few projects we have been involved in, including the 19-lot industrial subdivision off Crown Road for the Taupo District Council where we addressed all the District Council consents for industrial development, land contamination and Regional Council consents for filling in part of the gully system.
The site is looking great and will be a huge asset to Taupo for new industrial land.
Next door is also proceeding rapidly with a storage shed facility and also new early childhood education centre we consented in 2024 and is currently under construction.
So nice to get out of the office and remind ourselves that all the effort we put in to getting consents approved and working with great developers, results in millions of dollars of investment and new employment.

So glad to see this being proposed by the Government, a long time coming and time to rebalance things, as costs and process have gotten out of hand with little benefit to the community. This also allows council to focus on the higher risk work and address issues with work force capacity if we can reduce consents.

A new opt-in self-certification scheme is being developed.

One of the better articles I’ve read on housing and the issues with leaving it up to councils to try and resolve housing shortages and managing price rise’s in both home values and rent.

The Medium Density housing policy that had support across both Labour and National was the best piece of legislation we have seen to fix this issue which is now being rolled back which is a huge shame 🤦🏽‍♂️

I was lucky enough to get down to New Plymouth the other weekend to enjoy the fantastic Bowl of Brooklands and listen to Matchbox 20 and the Goo Goo Dolls for a bit of 90's rock and a fair bit of rain!!!

As always, I took a drone with me and got a few shots on the drive down of the three sisters, elephant rock and surrounding Tongaporutu River just as the sun was setting.

Really beautiful part of our rugged coastline of Aotearoa and very lucky to get some great shots before the rain came.
