Hello every body,
Here is an up date on Harvesting at Lake Rotoaira for 2017.
The harvesting took place over 14 operating days, with a total of 100 operating hours.
It was very trying due to weather conditions, torrential rain and heavy frost at times.
We removed a total of 185 harvester loads from Lake Rotoaira Intake area at 1.85 loads per hour.
This equates to 2,035 cubic meters or 555 tons of w**d for the contract including the final days operating on Monday the 22nd May.
The w**d collected this year was down on previous years volumes due to the fact that there wasn’t the large rafts of easy collectible w**d floating on the surface. We had to hunt for the w**d at times as it was just under the surface and due to some cloudy/windy/ overcast days we were unable to see it clearly. Each load took longer to collect and is reflected in our fuel usage (442 litres this year and 550 litres in 2016)
which means we did more return loads in 2016 as the w**d was thicker and close to shore.
The w**d consisted of more Lagarosiphon than Hornwort this year, we operated the harvester at its maximum cutting depth of 1.80metres and this gave us very long strands of Lagarosiphon and at times took 2 scoop runs to get it onto the harvester.

The dump site was located in a good area but due to the excessive rain that we had during the contract it quickly into thick mud.
LWHC appreciated the work Donny Hays from TWP and his little red tractor did keeping the dumpsite pushed up and the roads scrapped clean, this made our job a lot easier.
