Spotted mould on your canvas? Don't write it off just yet.
It's one of the most common things we see, and the good news is that, caught early, most canvas cleans up beautifully. It's leaving it that does the real damage.
Here's what to do when you first notice it:
1. Act fast 🕐
Fresh mould usually sits on the surface — growing on dust, salt and grime rather than in the fabric itself. The sooner you treat it, the easier it lifts.
2. Skip the bleach ❌
We know it's tempting, but harsh bleach and strong detergents strip the waterproofing and UV coating, weaken the stitching, and do more harm than the mould ever would.
3. Clean it gently 🧽
Use a dedicated canvas/fabric mould cleaner (or a mild soap solution) with a soft brush. Work it in, rinse, and let it dry completely in the sun.
4. Know when to call in the team 📞
If the fabric feels weak, the staining is deep and permanent, or the stitching is perishing — cleaning won't bring it back. That's where we come in. We repair, replace panels, or remake the item entirely.
Prevention is the real win: always store your canvas clean and bone-dry, never pack it away damp, and keep it ventilated. Mould needs moisture and time — take away either one and you've won.
