Aaaaand I'm open for biz!

I’ve been on a quiet six-month hiatus, spending some quality time with my new boss, Iggy. He’s a fair bit younger than me... The first cab off the rank in Generation Beta (born 2025–2039). Hard to believe there are two whole generations between us. He’s already showing me how to use AI.

In all honesty though, these past months have been grounding - a masterclass in perspective as a new parent. It really is one of those 'you know if you know' experiences, and I know that now. I’m deeply grateful that this pepe chapter has been gentle and joyous so far.

Some of you may have seen me speak on TV recently about our miscarriages, and how they were in many ways a catalyst for changing everything - what I value, my career, where I lived… my whole life. Painful things happen, and while we can’t choose them, we can choose how we move through them.

A day of filming, and this was the segment that made it to TV. I have always been open about our miscarriages, right down to the detail. Shame loves the dark, so I like to keep the curtains open to the daylight. If it helps you to know you are not alone, I am glad. It is normal, commonplace and it is absolutely not your fault.

In my coaching work, many wāhine open up about their own experiences - miscarriage, stillbirth, fertility struggles, heartbreak, the juggle of careers, businesses, relationships, and raising tamariki.

Life is one bucket. Everything we put in it has to fit - and that means making space for what truly matters. You can have it all, but this looks different for each of us.

If you’re ready to carve out that space for your business, your leadership, or yourself, I’d love to talk about how coaching with me could support you. Reach out, or find out more at www.danniermilovawilliams.com

Energy transfers... it’s science - and we love science.

Spend enough time around anyone, and their mindset, habits, and energy start to rub off on you.

You become who you spend time with. Look closely. Choose wisely.

The people around you shape your thinking, your confidence, and your capacity to grow. This isn’t about surrounding yourself with “successful” people.

It’s tailored to you, your journey. It's about alignment to your values and energy... Growth that feels real, not performative.

Let's chat about keeping your network fresh, aligned, and impactful. Who expands your thinking. Who drains your energy. Who still fits where you’re heading...

Because an unsupportive partner at home, a misaligned mentor, or a network that no longer serves you won’t just slow your progress, they’ll eat away at your most limited resources: time, energy, and focus.

It's more than ok to let go. It may well be essential.

What words sum up the crew around you right now... Are they a conscious choice?

Curate your circle.
Choose with intention.

Let's chat.

The cost of being too humble.

So many women in business pride themselves on being generous... With their time, their energy, their expertise. But that generosity can quietly cost us.

When was the last time you put up your rates?

When was the last time you checked that you’re being paid what you’re worth - not just in dollars, but in respect for your skill, your time, and the trade-offs you make to do what you do?

Almost every woman who comes to me for coaching ends up talking about money within the first two sessions. Some haven’t reviewed their rates in five years. In that time, the CPI, and the cost of living, in Aotearoa has shifted dramatically.

That’s not just an economic gap. That’s a value gap.

Being humble and hardworking doesn’t mean being underpaid or undervalued.

If you want to get real about money, not just the rate you charge, but the meaning and mindset that sit behind it, let’s talk.

Being humble and hardworking shouldn’t mean being underpaid or undervalued.

If you’re serious about getting real with money, we dig deeper - beyond hourly rates - into your value, your opportunities, and what charging what you’re worth actually looks like in practice.

Let's chat.

“Cute won’t delete later.”

Last night I had my one minute of fame on Counting the Beat (TV One). A day of filming, deep kōrero, and plenty of laughs.

We covered big topics: the motherhood penalty, the power of coaching women in business, and the importance of money, value, and confidence in running your own show.

What made it to air though was my own story... experiencing a couple of miscarriages, stepping out to build my business, and learning how vital it is to know your worth and surround yourself with good people.

Some important reminders in there that I hope land where they need to.

Nothing’s off the table with me. We go there - confidence, power, money, family, loss, overwhelm - because that’s where great change simmers...

If that sounds like the kind of space you need, get in touch... let’s talk about coaching together.

Check out TV1 at 7.30pm tonight on Counting the Beat — a show that dives into fascinating data about life in Aotearoa. I’ll be talking about women, business, and money.

In my coaching mahi with women leaders and business owners, money doesn’t usually show up as the main topic — but it’s always there, just under the surface. And it’s big.

Too often, we’re underselling ourselves. Being too nice when it comes to charging what we’re worth.

So here’s your reminder: know your value, raise your rates, and own it like the boss you are.

And if you want to unpack your relationship with money — let’s talk.

With my fellow wāhine biz ladies...

What if being a woman in business means more choice rather than less...

I've been pondering what my idea of balance could look like as I shift into a new space over the coming weeks... I started by updating my auto email response, below:

Kia ora,

I’m currently on parental leave, embracing the steep learning curve of my new role as a parent. As my business is the only place I remain my own boss, I’m taking a flexible approach to balancing work and life during this time.

Think of my business as being on airplane mode: still connected, but with limited functions available while I adapt to my secondary employment and new boss. I’ll be checking my emails periodically. My responses will be slower than usual but know that it’s not you, it’s me.

If you have an opportunity or idea to share, I’d love to hear it. Just know it might take me a little longer to reply.

I appreciate your patience and understanding. Thanks from one human to another,

Danni Ermilova Williams

I'd like to think that women can have it all, with some genuine realism, self-compassion and practical trade offs around what 'having it all' actually means... I guess I will find out when I meet my new boss. It has been a while since I worked for a dude...

One year ago today, I launched DEW Coaching and Consultancy.

That same week, my husband and I both transitioned into new careers, we listed our house for sale, began our move to the Bay of Plenty, and I attended the HRNZ Awards in Auckland. It was the official culmination of our deliberate 12-month reset, Break Free 23 - one that forced me to rethink priorities, navigate uncertainty, and commit to a new professional path.

A year in, here’s what I’ve learned about change, business, and starting over:

→ Trade-offs are inevitable. Every opportunity comes at a cost - there is no perfect scenario, only competing priorities. The key is to make decisions based on what holds the most value in the present, rather than seeking an ideal that doesn’t exist.

→ Commitment sustains momentum. Change is uncomfortable, and setbacks are inevitable. Progress requires resisting the impulse to pivot too soon. Clarify your purpose, stay the course, and push through discomfort rather than interpreting it as a sign to stop.

→ Networks accelerate transition. Deciding to make a change is straightforward; executing it is complex. Surrounding yourself with the right people- those who challenge, support, and expand your thinking - makes the difference between struggle and progress.

→ Not everyone will come with you. Growth often disrupts the status quo, and not all relationships will adapt. Recognising when to let go of people or environments that no longer align with your direction is necessary for continued progress.

→ Success is a moving target. Applying old measures of success to new contexts often leads to dissatisfaction. Redefining success based on current values and circumstances ensures that progress remains meaningful rather than performative.

Here’s to the people who have supported, sponsored and chosen to work with me this past year. Thank you. And here's to the year of change, challenge and growth ahead!

Last Thursday in Tāmaki Makaurau, we gathered to celebrate the very best of our profession. The HR Institute of NZ Awards are always a highlight, and this year was no exception.

As HRNZ Board Chair, I’m honoured to be part of an organisation that supports a vast network of HR professionals, contributors, and business leaders - people shaping the working lives of nearly 3 million Kiwis.

One of my favourite pics from the evening, awarding HR Person of the Year to Dr Deepika Jindal CMHRNZ, from the University of Auckland. An incredible wāhine.

What you can't see in this pic is a quick exchange between us... "I wasn't prepared to win this award, too... what shall I say?"... My advice: "I am not sure but you'd better think of something pretty quick!".

And she did... She relayed our conversation to the room of 500...

Congratulations Deepika, and our other entrants, finalists and winners.
