The solar market is maturing with Hamilton’s Laminex Factory the latest commercial building to install solar panels with the help of Vector Powersmart. There are now 1362 panels sitting on Laminex’s roof, ready to harness the power of the sun. Check out the article on Stuff

Come summer, the country's largest rooftop solar installation will provide the factory below with all the power it needs during the day.

Watercare project going well. Nice work team.

Now, that’s a bird’s-eye view of a powerful project! Slowly and carefully the final piece of our floating solar array puzzle is towed into position at Rosedale Wastewater Treatment Plant. It will join its three fellow puzzle pieces to span the size of a rugby field and thanks to 2,736 solar panels generate enough power to the run the equivalent of 200 New Zealand homes for a year. That’s a mighty fine effort, Vector Limited. Why are we doing this you ponder! Well, it’s a push in the right direction for our energy improvement programme which aims to reduce our energy costs and meet our emission reduction targets by 2030.

The resident swan at Watercare’s Rosedale wastewater treatment plant will remain undisturbed as we continue to push out the floating solar panels onto the lake. Over 4,000 floats have been used to install more than 2,700 solar panels.(JA Solar ) This is the first of four sections of panels, each one spanning a quarter hectare in size and holding a total of 684 solar panels each. Once combined, the panels will be the same size as a rugby field – an innovative use of the available space!

The floating solar panels will be able to generate enough power over a year to run the equivalent of 200 average New Zealand homes; helping with Watercare’s ambitious programme to reduce its energy use by 2022 and to achieve energy self-sufficiency at its Mangere and Rosedale wastewater treatment plants by 2025.

As the sun sets on another brisk winter’s day the team has finished installing the last of the 65 ballast anchors that will secure the floating solar panels at ’s Rosedale wastewater treatment plant. The concrete anchors are huge - weighing 2.5 tonnes each!

The team has been excited to work on this project as it’s the first of its kind in New Zealand - featuring more than 2,700 solar panels, the installation will generate 1480 MWh (megawatt hours) of electricity each year with zero emissions. Watercare has an ambitious programme in place to achieve energy self-sufficiency at their Mangere and Rosedale wastewater treatment plants by 2025. Solar installations such as this one will help Watercare achieve their targets by reducing their CO2 emissions by 145 tonnes each year - that’s the equivalent of driving 66 cars in New Zealand. We think that’s a bright idea.
