Our first CulturalLINKS was a huge success!

One of the things we love most about CulturalLINKS is that it isn’t just about sharing our own culture, it’s about discovering others. Yesterday we were reminded how much we all have in common.

The similarities between Māori, Middle Eastern, and Sikh cultures were profound: values of whānau and hospitality, deep respect for elders, and a strong connection to community.

When we come together with open minds, we don’t just learn about difference, we uncover the threads that bind us all.

Tūpuna Tips #02

For us this is a valuable saying that reminds us to look carefully at the wisdom drawn and tested from centuries before us. Use that basis to evaluate if you are doing things right or well before you start to innovate or develop new ideas. That's not to say we have to stay stuck in those ways but don't dismiss them too quickly.

A few ideas to make use of this reminder today:

🙌🏽 If something longstanding isn't working, take the time to respect the process and look at it carefully in case you are missing something - too often the issue is human error in application;
🙌🏽 This will strengthen your ability to utilise the tried and true;
🙌🏽 However, if there is opportunity for improvement then you will have a strong foundation from which to adjust, adapt and succeed.

In Māori there is a saying "Kāore te kūmara e kōrero mō tōna ake reka" which translates to "The kūmara doesn't speak of it's own sweetness"
For us it's a reminder to stay humble, it keeps us grounded and focused on the real matters at hand. But it's always nice to hear that people see, hear and feel the impacts of the mahi we do and choose to share their words of kindness with us.
