Did you know? that 70% to 90% of materials in a given electronic product can be recycled ♻

Here’s a breakdown:

📱Mobile phones: Up to 90% of components (metals, plastics, glass) can be recovered.
💻Computers and laptops: Around 80-90% can be recycled, including aluminum, copper, gold, and plastics.
📺Televisions and monitors: Roughly 70-80%, but older CRTs are harder and more hazardous to recycle.
📻Household electronics (e.g., microwaves, stereos): Around 70-80%, though non-metallic parts may reduce recyclability.

So while the potential is high ⬆ the reality is less than 2% ⬇of this e-waste is properly recycled, with the vast majority ending up in landfills.
☢This is particularly concerning given that e-waste contains hazardous substances like lead and mercury, which can leach into the environment, as well as valuable materials such as gold and copper that are lost when not recycled.

The Seagull Centre accepts most electronics either for resale or dismantling for FREE, however there are some items that incur a small fee due to the costs involved in the recycling process.

Your plastic bottle tops can be recycled through the Seagull Centre.

💡 We accept:
✅ Clean, washed plastic lids (no liners or metal)

📍 Drop-offs accepted at Seagull Centre Thames, Pauanui, & Tairua.

Each year we fill 5 240L wheelie bins of plastic lids. Let’s keep going!
