Meet Inez Wilson Harding!🙌

You may recognise Inez from our website and social media pages. She was one of the stars of our recent photo shoot.

Inez joined Irricon in 2023 and works across both the nutrient and water sides of the business. That means she supports clients with consent applications, Farm Environment Plans, compliance reporting, and water quality analysis.

She also manages Irricon’s water quality sampling programme and is one of the team’s go-to people for water quality trend analysis, GIS mapping, and making sense of complex data.🤯

With a Bachelor of Science in Geography and Geology, and a Master of Science in Geography, Inez brings a strong science background to her role, helping turn detailed environmental information into clear, practical advice for our clients.

Originally from Whangārei, Inez grew up spending weekends and school holidays on her grandparents’ and uncles’ sheep and beef farms in Northland, which helped spark her interest in the food and fibre sector.

These days, Inez is based in near Fairlie in the Mackenzie District, where she lives on her fiancé’s family sheep and beef farm.

Outside of work, she’s not one to sit still! You’ll usually find her running with her Jack Russell Reggie, swimming, biking, helping out on farm, or playing hockey in winter. Earlier this year, Inez completed Challenge Wānaka, a half-ironman event. Pretty impressive!

When asked what she loves most about her role at Irricon, Inez says it’s working alongside passionate women who are excelling in the food and fibre industry. Safe to say Inez is one of those women too!👏

Winter conditions tend to expose weak spots pretty quickly.

Races, culverts, troughs, drainage, and laneways all come under pressure once soils get wet and stock movements increase. If something’s borderline now, it’s probably going to get worse over winter.

A quick check and a bit of maintenance now is often far easier than dealing with breakdowns in the middle of winter.

How good is our team photo!! Nothing like a team day to get everyone together in one place!🙌

Last week, the Irricon team met at our Timaru office for an afternoon of updates, ideas, and good conversation about where we’re heading as a business.

We kicked things off with a team lunch - of course! Then onto a business update, followed by a comms session with our PR partner Kate Webber, who helped us think about how we tell the Irricon story, share what we do, and keep showing up clearly and consistently for farmers, landowners, and rural professionals.

But it wasn’t all work and no play! We worked on our golf handicaps with some mini putt (yes, we forgot to take photos – sorry Kate!) and a delicious dinner at Street Food Kitchen.⛳😋

Now's the time to inspect pumps, pipes, and effluent irrigators for any maintenance needs.

Make the most of any remaining days where weather and ground conditions allow discharge, to draw your storage down as low as possible - giving you maximum capacity heading into the new season.

Farm Environment Plans work best when they stay current.

If things have changed on your farm this season - infrastructure, management practices, or system changes - it’s worth making sure your FEP reflects that.

Keeping your plan current makes sense, especially when the stress of the audit season rolls around. A clear, accurate plan now is much easier than trying to piece everything together later.

Huge congratulations to the team at Lone Star Farms 👏

The 2026 Rabobank People Development Award goes to … Lone Star Farms. 👏

Lone Star Farms operates six sheep and beef farms across the South Island, employing 35 people and running 95,000 stock units.

People development was at the heart of the business, with personalised development plans, structured learning groups and ongoing leadership coaching for staff at every level.

The judges said Lone Star Farms had demonstrated a strong commitment to people development and the organisation’s vision and purpose were both centred around people.
They commented on the business’s focus on building capability within their farms both formally and informally with all full-time staff having personal development programmes.

They added that Lone Star Farms had invested heavily in developing people; their training and their future.

With the water year ending on 30 June, now’s a good time to review how you’re tracking against your consent conditions. That includes water use limits, record keeping, and reporting requirements.

It’s much easier to identify any gaps now and make a plan before irrigating starts again.

As irrigation seasons wrap up across Canterbury and Otago, this is a valuable opportunity to get organised before winter sets in.

Getting nutrient budgets and reporting sorted now can save a lot of stress later.

Deadlines for nutrient budgets and synthetic nitrogen reporting aren’t far away, and pulling records together at the last minute always makes the job harder. If your records are up to date, this is usually pretty straightforward.

Getting fertiliser records sorted now will make the process more manageable. A bit of organisation now can make winter and spring a whole lot smoother.
