Bulbs, candles, even colours can be bright – but paper?

Brightness is a common description of paper - not just as an adjective, but a technical measure between 1 and 100.

It refers to the % of light a sheet of paper reflects and it is measured by a light meter. The higher the rating, the more light the paper reflects.

That's important in printing - photographic materials and marketing collateral benefit from the sharpness, contrast and vibrancy of a high brightness paper (90+). For general office printing or text documents, lower brightness paper (80 – 90) may suffice.

As New Zealanders we are blessed to have abundant trees, forests and bushland, many of which are unique to Aotearoa. They are worth protecting.

Spain has long had a love affair with paper and was one of the earliest paper-producing countries in Europe, learning the craft from the Islamic world. As the Renaissance took hold, the demand for books saw the Spanish paper and book making industries grow rapidly.
