In this weeks homeschool lesson we continued on ecology where we looked at the impact of farming in New Zealand since inhabitants. We discussed land clearing, farming practices, changes of land use and evolution of farming practices to protect the land, forests and waterways. The building task was to build a farm with some problems so we could discuss how to improve them for better environmental conditions.

A couple of weeks ago the homeschool class took a look at the Ecology of NZ pre and post human arrival. We ended up at looking how introduced mammals impacted NZ’s native fauna and what protecting them might look like. The kids were tasked with building NZ pre mammals, then the follow up was to introduce pests, then protection.

In Homeschool class this week, we looked into wind powered energy. After a 30 minute discussion around Wind, turbines, pros and cons the kids were tasked to build a wind turbine to be tested with my trusty Makita blower! The task was completed by everyone with some very different approaches. The turbines were built, tested and refined with further testing.

Nearly full house for the holiday program today. Was great to see some new faces as well as some returning friends. The kids built some really cool stuff today with a nice split between sets and MoCs.
