FIELD NOTES: Out here this week… where need to deploy more often… where young people with are often stood down from school or college for violent anti-social behaviour.

More often than not, when they leave school support environment, they disappear into a vacuum especially in rural areas.

Too often they re-appear in the and systems.

Identifying these young people early on for group programmes 1-1 mentoring with youthworkers is the priority here.

It’s what I call “left of bang” interventions.

On this day 12.02 a.m Monday 14 November 2016, a magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck near Kaikoura in the South Island of New Zealand.

The earthquake was the most powerful in the area in over 150 years and is one of the most complex earthquakes ever recorded with modern instruments.

(It was also when the comms desk lady snuck a photo of me in the ops room when I emerged from the agency scif to help run daily sitreps- there I am awkwardly trying to hide my face…

Nothing like a good earthquake to shake some spooks out of the shadows huh!
