Due to interim changes to New Zealand’s international adoption policy, many overseas adoptions by New Zealand citizens and residents will no longer be recognised under New Zealand law for immigration and citizenship purposes. This has immediate implications for immigration pathways involving adopted children.

While INZ continues to use ANZSCO to set visa rules for AEWV applicants, work is underway to integrate the NOL into INZ’s systems.

The NOL includes new occupations at skill levels 1 to 3, which may allow some workers currently in Level 4 or 5 roles to apply for a further AEWV to extend their maximum continuous stay.

The latest estimate shows that as of 1 July 2025, there were around 20,980 people in New Zealand who had overstayed their visa.

This is the first estimate produced using INZ’s newly adopted methodology, which has significantly enhanced the accuracy of the estimate since the previous one was carried out in 2017. That estimate put the number of people who have overstayed their visas at approximately 14,000, but direct comparisons between the two estimates cannot be made because of the different methodologies used.

The Business Investor Work Visa will open for applications in November 2025 and offer 2 investment options:

NZD $1 million investment in an existing business, for a 3-year work-to-residence pathway
NZD $2 million investment in an existing business, for a 12-month fast-track to residence pathway
Applicants can purchase a business outright on either visa pathway or acquire at least 25% of the business, provided they meet the minimum $1 million or $2 million investment thresholds.

Sinh viên có thể làm việc trước hay sau khi khóa học kết thúc tùy thuộc vào quyền làm việc được quy định trong thị thực sinh viên.

- Bắt đầu từ ngày 3 tháng 11 năm 2025, học sinh trung học và đại học đủ điều kiện sẽ được phép làm việc tối đa 25 giờ mỗi tuần trong học kỳ. Thay đổi này sẽ áp dụng cho tất cả các thị thực du học được cấp kể từ ngày đó, áp dụng cho các đơn đăng ký thị thực du học đã được nộp trước đó.
- Nếu thị thực du học đã có giới hạn làm việc 20 giờ và người có thị thực muốn làm việc 25 giờ mỗi tuần, họ sẽ cần phải nộp đơn xin thay đổi điều kiện. 5 giờ bổ sung sẽ không được tự động thêm vào. Nếu người có thị thực không nộp đơn để xin thêm số giờ làm việc, thì số giờ cho phép làm việc trên thị thực hiện tại của họ vẫn giữ nguyên.
- Nhiều thị thực sinh viên đã cho phép làm việc toàn thời gian trong mùa hè và các kỳ nghỉ theo lịch trình khác. Nếu thị thực bao gồm điều này, người có thị thực có thể không cần phải nộp đơn xin thêm 5 giờ làm. Người có thị thực có thể chọn nộp đơn xin thay đổi điều kiện sau mùa hè, nếu thị thực của họ vẫn còn hiệu lực.
- Sinh viên đang theo các chương trình Trao đổi hoặc Du học sẽ đủ điều kiện để có được quyền làm việc, ngay cả khi họ học tập ở New Zealand dưới một năm.
