While small changes can have a huge impact on your results over time, there is also the chance of lots of small changes don't do anything.

You might be switching out salad dressings, buying all natural foods, or choosing more plant-based protein sources; and none of those actually have any real effect on the number on the scale, health, or fitness progress.

It's because the whole picture hasn't been overhauled.

I often have clients telling me of their big success stories of how they've lost certain amount of weight.

I read and see stories of other health coaches sharing stories of their clients Losing a whole heap off the scale.

Let me share with you this!!

THE INDIVIDUAL DISCUSSES THE NEW DIET AND EXCERCISE ROUTINE AS A LIFESTYLE.

Not one of them discussed or mentioned a single hack, or tip that catapulted them forward to their success.

Instead, it was a SLOW AND STEADY routine of sometimes boring basics we all know, but all too often keep looking for the ONE THING that most are missing.

And at times, it's that belief there is that ONE THING that's actually the thorn in your side for making real progress.

Nutrition should be viewed as a way of protecting and healing your body, rather than a tool to promote weight-loss.It's more than that! The number on the scale is irrelevant when it comes to your health. Nutrition is about providing your body with the right balance of nutrients to prolong longevity of your life.Healthy eating is about incorporating some treats together with healthy options. However, you need to learn what healthy eating looks like first, before treating yourself!

July of this year marks a year since we started the Tamā (Father), programme. There was a need as the life expectancy for a Pacific Island male is 74.5 years, respectively compared with 80.3 years for non-Pacific males in New Zealand.

The life expectancy for a a Pacific Island woman is 79 years compared to 84.5 years for a non-Pacific woman in New Zealand.

Cancer is the leading cause of death, followed by heart disease being the second leading cause of death, follow by Diabetes, the third leading cause of death.

There are complex combination of factors that have impacted Pacific Island health, such as lower socioeconomic status, poorer access to and quality of healthcare, lack of understanding and education around the effect of food to our bodies.

Last week we kicked started the Tama'ita'i (Women) programme.

The purpose of these programmes are to educate our people on the effect of food. This is more sustainable than telling our people you can't eat this or that, which is not sustainable.

Healthy eating is about incorporating your treats together with healthy options, however, we need to learn what healthy eating looks like first, before treating yourself! This is more sustainable!

For Pacific peoples, health and wellbeing begins in the family. The family carries the culture, values and practices and, therefore, is very influential in shaping healthy attitudes and activities. We as Pacific people need to make our health a priority.
