180 metres long, with post bases up 30 metres off road level, Abseil Access are proud to have delivered one of New Zealand’s longest rockfall attenuator fences at O’Sullivan’s Bluffs, a major infrastructure protection project completed under complex access, traffic and geological conditions.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗲𝗱:
• Installation of a 180m ATT 30 attenuator barrier, with post bases reaching heights of up to 30m
• Over 6,300 m² of high tensile rockfall mesh including ~950m2 of anchored active mesh drape
• 200+ rock anchors drilled and installed using rope access and specialist plant
• Works completed while maintaining live traffic, with only short closures for heli-lifts, blasting and scaling when required

From helicopter-assisted logistics to drilling in fractured geology, this was a technically demanding job delivered safely over 5 and a half months by an experienced, highly coordinated crew.

A huge credit to the team behind the ropes, rigs, cranes and traffic control, keeping State Highway 6 protected for the long term.

💛 Today is R U OK? Day 💛

We’re taking time to check in, start conversations, and remind each other that it’s okay to ask the question: “Are you okay?” 💬

Together, we’re building a culture where support, connection, and wellbeing matter - on and off the worksite.

Pushing the Limits in the Backcountry

This project had it all — helicopters, 4WD hiabs, utes, mountain bikes… and a whole lot of determination. Getting our team and materials onsite was an adventure in itself, with the crew living in tents for up to 10 days at a time and using a backcountry hut as our kitchen and lounge.

Against the odds, and in the depths of winter, we faced rainstorms, snow, -6°C nights, and relentless sandflies. But the team dug deep and delivered a swing bridge we’re incredibly proud of — now part of the St James Cycleway.

- 68m span
- Anchored by 2.4m Deadman anchors and 3.0m rock anchors
- Bespoke drill rig designed and built in our Christchurch yard
- Cyclist-friendly platform and ramp

Massive thanks to Dean Arthur, Jack Ryan, Alex Arthur, and a special shoutout to John McDonald, who came to pick up a Trademe bargain and stayed to help build a ramp.

Bridge Build #116 – Bucklerburn Bridge Complete

Abseil Access has just wrapped up another spectacular project - the 48m Bucklerburn Bridge, nestled near the scenic town of Glenorchy on the edge of Fiordland National Park. This bridge forms part of the stunning new Glenorchy Trail, circling the northern end of Lake Wakatipu.

Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Southern Alps in deep winter, our bridge team braved snowstorms and freezing conditions to deliver another successful design and build project.

Bucklerburn marks bridge #116 in our portfolio - a testament to the grit, precision, and passion of our team.

Well done to everyone involved!

Bridge Build #115 – Mangaturuturu River Bridge Complete

Abseil Access has just wrapped up bridge number 115 - the Mangaturuturu River Bridge, our third installation on the Te Hangaruru Trail between Horopito and Pokaka.
Set among stunning alpine beech forest on the western flanks of Mt Ruapehu, this 30m long x 1.5m wide bridge was delivered in just 5 weeks by Mat, the AA bridge team, and with support from the trail crew and local labour.

This was another successful Design & Build project, featuring the latest in FRP decking technology - ideal for the rugged and remote environment.

A huge shoutout to everyone involved in bringing this beautiful section of trail to life!

**Building the Final Link on the Kawatiri Coastal Trail!**

The Totara River Bridge marks the fourth and final bridge on the stunning Kawatiri Coastal Trail, following Martins Creek, Okari, and the award-winning Nile Bridge. Our incredible team—Dean, Jack, Sara, Alex, Max, and Josh—brought this structure to life with skill, precision, and style.

Set against the serene backdrop of the Totara River, this bridge is not just a crossing; it’s a gateway to adventure on one of New Zealand’s most breathtaking coastal trails. With the official opening later this month, the Kawatiri Coastal Trail is set to become another jewel in the West Coast’s crown.

Congratulations to everyone involved in this landmark project!

Major re-strengthening work on the Rob Roy Glacier Walk bridge is now complete, the bridge is open again!
Our star south island team (Ash, Sara, Kimbra and Morgan) did another great job. Thanks to DoC for engaging us and thanks to Pedro at Katalyst Media for another video. Thanks to the Aspinals, Aspiring Helicopter and other Wanaka locals for supporting us.

**Koolan Island Bridge**

We're incredibly proud to announce the successful completion of a 75m bridge on Koolan Island—thanks to the hard work of Kimbra, Sara, and Ash. This dynamic, mostly female team is making waves in the industry, showing what's possible with skill and determination.

A big shoutout to Simin Devoy from A-Frame Ltd, who engineered this project, and to Vertech Group for their collaboration alongside Abseil Access.

Before the bridge, it used to take 2 hours to reach the other side, losing 3-4 hours a day in transit. Now, with the bridge standing 150m above the bottom of the pit, we've dramatically improved site access for multiple campaigns in just 3 weeks.

Together, we’re proving the power of collaboration!
