🇳🇿 **BIG CHANGE TO THE NZ PARENT RESIDENT VISA**

Immigration New Zealand has announced a new selection system for the **Parent Resident Visa**, starting **5 October 2026**.

🔹 **90%** of EOIs → selected in **date order**
🔹 **10%** of EOIs → selected through a **ballot**
🔹 Annual cap remains **2,500 visas**
🔹 Existing EOIs → **automatically move** to the new system
🔹 EOIs will **no longer expire after 2 years** — holders will instead need to confirm every 2 years that they want to remain in the pool and keep their details updated. No additional fee applies.

📅 **Important dates**

**11 August 2026:** Next selection under the current system
**5 October 2026:** New hybrid system takes effect
**10 November 2026:** First selection under the new system

Importantly, **visa eligibility requirements are not changing**. The change is about **how EOIs are selected for an Invitation to Apply**.

For families waiting to bring their parents to New Zealand, this should make the process more predictable while retaining an opportunity for newer EOIs through the ballot.

IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR NZ RESIDENT VISA APPLICANTS

Good news from Immigration New Zealand.

From 3 August 2026, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C are no longer on the high-cost health conditions list used when assessing resident visa applications.

What does this mean?
• Applicants with Hepatitis B or C will no longer be automatically considered as failing the acceptable standard of health.
• Every case will now be assessed based on the applicant's individual medical circumstances.
• This change may benefit applicants under Skilled Residence, Partnership Residence, Investor Residence and other residence categories.

Please note:
This does not guarantee visa approval. Applicants must still meet all other health requirements, and Immigration New Zealand will continue to assess each case on its own merits.
