In March, we‘ll be offering the very first accreditation course for Restorative Practices in New Zealand for Resolution Institute.

We’re super excited about this one - it‘s designed for mediators and facilitators who are already comfortable working with people in conflict, but who really want to dig into developing expertise in restorative approaches.

It’s three days in person in Wellington over a Friday, Saturday, and Sunday - we hope you‘ll join us! Get in touch with any questions.

Like a garden, relationships flourish only when we take the time to nurture them.

Every small gesture matters.
Misunderstandings need clearing.
Deeper conflicts ask for courage.
And sometimes, having the right support helps us begin again.

Tending to relationships isn’t about perfection —
it’s about staying present, and choosing repair.

As 2025 comes to a close, we encourage you to reflect not only on the things that have happened, but on the relationships in your life, as well.

What strengths do you notice in your relationships? Which may need tending to in 2026?

Relationships thrive with intention and attention.
How have you been tending to yours this year?

Hate small talk? Christmas parties can make it feel even harder.

Here are a few easy tips to get you through the night
🎄✨
Stop overthinking what to say.
Get curious about the people around you.
Ask questions you actually want to know the answers to.

Enjoying small talk isn’t hard, it’s about showing interest in others.

Try one simple question, see where it goes, and let the conversation unfold.

Over nine years, Aspen has learned to flow with the work as it comes, while staying rooted in what matters most:
readiness, courage, and repair.

From honoring every partnership to stepping into our own brand in 2020, each decision has shaped who we are.

We move with the work.
We stay grounded in our values.
We grow in ways that feel right.

Nine years in — and we’re proud to still be here.

After nine years, we’re still asked, why this work?

For Haley, restorative practices offered a path that traditional punitive systems couldn’t:
a way of responding to harm that centres the people most affected.

What keeps us motivated?
The courage we witness in our clients every single day.

Our foundational values guide everything we do:
relationship, respect, responsibility, and repair.

Relationships come first here, always.

Thanks for supporting us for the last 9 years - here’s to the 10th year of relational repair ahead!

Workshop Recap: Restorative Practices for the Workplace

Last week, we had participants from around the world to join us and explore how restorative practices can transform workplace conflict into moments of clarity and understanding.

Led by Dr. Sarah Roth Shank( ) — restorative justice practitioner, researcher, and educator — the session unpacked how we can respond to harm in ways that strengthen our workplace relationships.

The workshop led participants through reflective activities, scenario-based dialogue, and practical tools for restorative conversations in both workplace and personal settings.

Key Insights from the Workshop
▫️ Blame narrows our view — understanding opens possibilities
▫️ Restorative questions shift focus to impact, needs, and repair
▫️ Accountability with empathy strengthens team communication
▫️ Trust can be rebuilt through intentional restorative practices

Workplaces are communities.
A restorative approach helps teams navigate conflict with more empathy, courage, and clarity — creating environments where people feel safe to speak, collaborate, and grow.

Thank you to everyone who joined and leaned into the process with openness.
And a special thank you to Sarah for her insightful facilitation and depth of expertise.

Owning the harm requires
▫️Courage to confront
▫️Take accountability as action
▫️Repair and evolve

Restorative work isn’t soft.
Many people would rather pay a fine than sit across from the person they harmed.

Listening. Owning impact. Making things right.
That’s courage, not the easy path.

Restorative justice asks more of us.
And that’s exactly why it works.
