It’s an interesting time at Around the Block- no summer to speak of and the grass growth just hasn’t stopped. We have been busy mulching grass not suited to hay or Baleage and we are now getting pasture ready for next spring. Our first fertiliser spread is only a week away - Sulphurgain 30s which has fast and slow acting Sulphur to be ready for Spring
Like fuel costs- fertiliser will go up sadly and I have no control over that
But with fuel we are holding our hourly rate at this stage and will reevaluate it over the next few weeks- if anything there might be a small fuel surcharge but I’m working on the basis it will come down again soon🤞🤞🤞🤞

It’s been a challenging couple of weeks with some jobs right out of the ordinary. This 2000m2 paddock had not been touched for 6 years but our mulcher made a great job of it
If a slash mower had been used it would have stopped any new growth but mulching will boost fertility and the regrow will happen faster and the result will be vastly better
But our core business is mulching that grass you have that’s growing way quicker than normal

But we got there and the result was as you can see quite amazing
Makes a change from mulching paddocks but that’s what we do
The grass growth has been quite exceptional due to No summer so if you need to get on top of it- mulching is the answer

Happy new year and best wishes to our fantastic clients at Around The Block. We are having a few much needed days off to catch up on sleep and gear maintenance but will be back into it next week
It’s been quite the season for growing grass and like most years there block owners who don’t or can’t for a variety of reasons, make hay or Baleage and that’s where we come in
In the before and after photos you will see a paddock that has not seen stock for 5 years and full of gorse, bracken and weeds and mulching takes care of it - slasher mowing would just create and even bigger problem as the grass just lays over , doesn’t break down and kills everything underneath it. The next two photos show grass up to the bonnet of the tractor and and mulching just deals to it
It looks like it will still dry out even though the rain has given us some reprieve so now’s the time to get that unwanted grass under control

It’s that time of year when Lifestyle Block owners are not making hay( for a variety of reasons) or just want to mulch grass that stock can’t or won’t eat . Mulching is the ideal option. Mulched grass breaks down much faster and is great for pasture health and build up of humus in the soil
It’s also drying out rapidly so mulching helps reduce future fire issues
We are busy but taking orders from 15th December and we will be working right through the holiday period

It’s been an awesome season for grass growth but now’s the time to look at mulching if stock can’t keep on top of it or you are not making hay or Baleage
Mulching gives the best result for your pasture health as it helps increase fertility
We are always busy doing hedge cleanup but grass mulching is going to be very busy over the next month or so

A great day at ATB doing what we do best- Mulching
Picking up hedge trimmings is a thankless task but our mulcher makes an awesome job of reducing it to a point where it will break down over the next few months
And we love getting into paddocks where the grass is wheel height( or higher) it’s transformational stuff and we get as big a kick out of the results as the clients do
And reminding you all it fertiliser season so get your orders in for next week- the weather this week means mulching and hope to get back into fert asap

Spring is here- not officially but I can see the signs around my block
I’m booked up for fertiliser for the coming week but taking orders going forward
Soil tests are taking longer than usual to get results back but we have access to some great off the shelf products to meet most needs
And of course we are full swing into mulching as well

Horse quality- very little clover
Predominantly Timothy and rye with some cocksfoot
Lime and sulphur 15s fert applied each year
$85 plus gst per bale

Spring is not far away and we are busy mulching that rank uneaten grass, doing soil tests and applying fertiliser
We have some very cost effective fertiliser options available but remember mulching is a great form of natural fertiliser- the grass just breaks down and goes back into the soil and ultimately for your stocks health
