Some great work being done by Te Tauihu Environment Trust. I visited on-site at the Waimea Estuary to chat about how the trust provides an umbrella organisation to help community groups deliver local environment restoration projects. I think it is often the case that communities achieve more and make scarce funding go further when government gets out of the way and provides targeted seed funding. The multiplier effect is far more than financial with communities working together to solve problems, better connections, better health. Throughout my time in representative roles I have supported these types of initiatives because it’s common sense and a great way to build stronger communities.
CANDIDATE VOTE JAMIE CLEINE and PARTY VOTE NZ FIRST to see more funding and support directed to regional communities.

It was great to host Q&A, to highlight the important race for West Coast Tasman. This captured me authentically, on the coal face of emergency management whilst advocating for our key mining industry. Nothing staged, literally a day in the life on call on the coast.
This is an important election, a CANDIDATE vote for JAMIE CLEINE IS A VOTE FOR EXPERIENCE IN ADVOCATING FOR OUR REGION.
A PARTY VOTE FOR New Zealand First IS A VOTE FOR COMMON SENSE TO GET THINGS DONE.

I stand firmly in support of our mining industry and together with NZ FIRST WILL BACK RESPONSIBLE MINING, provide certainty for the industry and RETURN 50% OF MINING ROYALTIES TO THE REGIONS that produce them — not Wellington. New Zealand First will support jobs, investment, regional infrastructure and adding more value to our resources here in New Zealand.
I BACK THE WORKERS and the REGIONS that create the WEALTH.
I also signed the open letter in support of Buller Plateaux Continuation, we cannot afford to lose this business from our region.

I joined Sean Plunket on The Platform this morning to discuss my West Coast Tasman Candidacy and why this is a pivotal election for the electorate. We discussed the special context of the West Coast and how National have a track record of indifference to their local member. We also discussed Labour’s decision to run a Christchurch based candidate and his refusal to sign a letter in support of Buller Plateaux Continuation (coal mine) despite there being 450 jobs on the line.
The West Coast Tasman finally has a chance to tick two boxes this election that will actually give them influence and respect.
CANDIDATE VOTE JAMIE CLEINE and PARTY VOTE NZ FIRST.

This was one of the first Provincial Growth Fund loans made to enable the establishment of what has now become the Snowy River Mine by Endura. That initial crown support has turned into $350m in private spend in development and hundreds of jobs available on the West Coast. That is exactly the type of support NZ First believes in and has a track record of delivering. PARTY VOTE NZ FIRST to ensure regions are supported. VOTE JAMIE CLEINE to make sure the West Coast Tasman get’s our fair share. New Zealand First

Regional investment funding has been a feature of every government NZ First has been a part of. The West Coast has many examples of funded and delivered projects to show for it.
A VOTE FOR NZ FIRST will see that continue, A VOTE FOR JAMIE CLEINE will ensure the WEST COAST TASMAN gets it’s fair share.

As we have been saying……..time that we recognise the value of NZ Citizenship. $20m a week, over $1b per year, in Super paid to those who first got residency in New Zealand aged over 50.
Let’s build back some pride in what it is to be a New Zealander, that isn’t something we should shy away from.

Great weekend in Westport. I went and checked out the Westport Garden Club Annual Spring Flower show. The winner of the day was the flowers, and Mum of course! The weather has been tough on gardeners so far this spring so the quality on display was a credit to all. It was a nice opportunity to chat and catch up with the locals buy a couple of plants and a few raffle tickets to support the club.

I was very pleased to sign this open letter in support of the Buller Plateaux Continuation project. It is too important for the West Coast for political parties and candidates to sit on the fence on this issue. NZ First unashamedly supports this industry and so do I.
If you want to support Buller I encourage you to follow the link and sign up too. Our local voice must be heard and respected, this is your chance.

👉🏻This is about more than coal. It’s about our future.

A group of community members from Buller have come together to make sure the voices of those who support the continuation of Stockton Mine are heard. We’ve created an Open Letter supporting the Buller Plateaux Continuation Project.

Why?

The continuation of the mine reaches far beyond the mine itself. It affects the families who rely on the jobs, the over 100 local businesses Stockton supports, the schools and clubs, and every person in a district that has already lived through one major industry collapse, multiple closures, and does not want to go backwards again.

We also say plainly that mining has environmental impacts and people hold different views about them. Our support does not mean support at any cost.

📖✏️Read the letter and, if you agree, add your name at ourbullerfuture.nz

Anyone can sign: residents, business owners, people who work here, former residents and supporters from elsewhere in New Zealand and around the world.

✏️Prefer pen and paper? We have signature sheets available too. Get in touch and we’ll get some to you.
