Rangatahi voices and aspirations were at the centre of the inaugural Generation Kāinga Symposium – Whakarauoratia te Ūkaipō: Our be-loved places of belonging – held in Auckland this week.
The symposium shared insights from the 'Tō Mātou Kāinga, Tō Mātou Ūkaipō' research project, which investigates and explores rangatahi Māori lived realities of home and housing, and their aspirations for kāinga.
At a time when housing affordability and wider cost-of-living pressures are reshaping everyday realities for whānau across Aotearoa, this kaupapa is both timely and essential.
Our Pouārahi, Te Aorangi, who also sits on the Generation Kāinga Advisory Group, attended the symposium alongside rangatahi, researchers, advocates, community leaders, and changemakers, to explore how we can better support rangatahi Māori in their housing journeys and aspirations.
We’re always inspired by kaupapa that place rangatahi at the centre of shaping positive change for the future, and we look forward to the insights and opportunities emerging from this kaupapa.
