17 years of data. 48% less carbon per tonne of laundry. 🧺

New episode of Step to Zero: the leadership team at La Nuova Apparelmaster on what nearly two decades of measuring taught them about running a better business.

Tunnel washers, heat recovery, solar, waste diversion. No single big move — just consistent measurement and a lot of small decisions.

Because every journey to zero starts with a step.

Ask five people in a meeting to define Scope 3 and you’ll get five different answers, three long pauses, and someone quietly opening a browser tab.

It shouldn’t be this hard.

Scope 1 is what you burn. Scope 2 is what you buy as energy. Scope 3 is everything else — and for most organisations, it’s the overwhelming majority of the footprint.

Which means if you’re only measuring 1 and 2, you’re seeing a fraction of the picture.

Instep turns 20 this year.

Since 2006 we’ve helped organisations across eight markets measure their emissions accurately enough to actually act on. Here are 5/20 things two decades of that work taught us.

ICYMI: we have a podcast.

Step to Zero: Conversations Beyond Data has been running quietly in the background while most of our energy has gone into client work — but if you’ve missed it, now’s a good time to catch up.

It’s a simple premise. We sit down with the people actually running operations — laundries, manufacturers, airports, campuses — and ask what changed once they started measuring their emissions. Not the polished version. The version with the failed pilots, the surprising line items, and the capital case someone had to fight for.

What does it take for a large-scale event to cut its emissions by 81%?

For the past 17 years, Fieldays has been a valued client of Instep™, and we’ve had the privilege of supporting their sustainability journey. In our latest podcast episode, Janine Frohlich-Monk shares how that journey has evolved into one of measurable impact.

From:
🌱 Reducing waste emissions by 91%
🚍 Rethinking transport and logistics
🤝 Engaging exhibitors, visitors, and stakeholders
📊 Building a culture of accountability and continuous improvement

This conversation goes beyond the numbers. It’s an honest look at the challenges, lessons, and strategies behind embedding sustainability into one of the Southern Hemisphere’s largest agricultural events.

Whether you’re involved in events, sustainability, or simply curious about what meaningful climate action looks like in practice, this episode is full of insights you can take back to your own organisation.
