Can poor mental health lead to workplace accidents? Absolutely!

Poor mental health can affect focus, judgement, reaction times, and risk awareness, making everyday tasks more hazardous. Looking after psychological wellbeing is just as important as managing physical safety risks in the workplace.

Marking 10 years with the Business Leaders’ Health & Safety Forum is a good reminder of why All About People shows up the way we do — for our own team, and for the clients who trust us to support their people and leadership.
Since 2016, we’ve been part of a community focused on lifting health, safety and wellbeing outcomes across Aotearoa. The conversations, insights and shared learning over that time have shaped how we partner with clients, how we advise, and how we help organisations build leadership cultures where people can thrive.
A decade in, the commitment remains the same: keep learning, keep leading, and keep supporting the businesses and people we work alongside!

WorkSafe 2026 Working at Height Guidelines: Every Metre Matters

The new WorkSafe Working at Height Guidelines 2026 emphasise that there is no safe fall height. Whether working at 1 metre or 10 metres, fall risks must be identified, assessed, and controlled.

✅ Eliminate working at height where possible
✅ Use collective protection first such as:
• Scaffolding
• Edge protection
• Safety mesh
• Elevated work platforms
✅ Use harnesses and personal fall protection only as a last line of defence when higher-level controls are not reasonably practicable
✅ Consult workers, provide training, supervision, and rescue planning
✅ Notify WorkSafe at least 24 hours before certain high-risk work where falls of 5 metres or more are possible

The key takeaway from the 2026 Guidelines: No height is risk-free. Every fall hazard deserves attention and appropriate controls.

Have your say - Draft ACOPs for Residential Construction

Here’s your first look at the draft content of an approved code of practice for residential construction.

It includes practical, scenario-based examples set on New Zealand building sites, so people can see how the law applies to everyday situations.

It's about making existing obligations clearer, particularly when multiple businesses are working on the same site.

We want to hear from anyone with a stake in residential construction: Is it practical? Is it clear enough to use on site?

Tell us what you think via our website: https://www.worksafe.govt.nz/about-us/news-and-media/consultation-opens-on-draft-acop-to-clarify-work-health-and-safety-in-residential-construction/
