Once your Building Warrant of Fitness (BWOF) has been issued, it's not enough to simply file it away.

Under New Zealand building requirements, a current BWOF must be displayed in a publicly visible location within the building.

It's typically displayed near your main entrance or reception area, where occupants and visitors can easily see it.

Displaying your BWOF demonstrates that your building's specified systems, including fire protection systems, have been inspected and maintained in accordance with its Compliance Schedule.

Not sure if your building is meeting its BWOF obligations? Fireco's experienced IQPs can help with inspections, servicing and ongoing compliance support to keep your building protected and compliant.

Not all smoke alarms work the same way.

Photoelectric smoke alarms are designed to detect slow, smouldering fires earlier, while ionisation smoke alarms respond more quickly to fast-flaming fires.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand recommends long-life photoelectric smoke alarms as the preferred option because they're more effective at detecting the types of fires most commonly encountered and are less prone to nuisance alarms.

Whether you're upgrading an existing system or installing a new one, choosing the right smoke detection solution is an important part of protecting your people and your property.

At Fireco, we can help you select, install, and maintain the right smoke alarm system for your commercial building.

Emergency lighting plays a vital role when the unexpected happens.

In the event of a power outage or emergency, it helps light escape routes, exits and essential areas, allowing everyone to evacuate the building safely.

Like any fire safety system, emergency lighting needs regular testing and maintenance to ensure it's ready when it's needed.

Routine inspections help identify faults early, support your building's compliance requirements and give you confidence your system will perform in an emergency.

Your fire alarm system is there to protect your people and your property, but it needs regular servicing to do its job.

During an annual inspection, our technicians test the system, check for faults, inspect key components and make sure everything is operating as it should.

Identifying issues early helps prevent unexpected failures, supports compliance and gives you confidence your system is ready when it matters most.

If your fire alarm system is due for its annual service, Fireco can help keep your building protected and compliant - learn more here: https://fireco.co.nz/services/fire-alarm-systems-installations/

When it comes to commercial fire safety compliance in New Zealand, many business owners and property managers hear terms like Fire Safety Plan, Specified Systems, and BWOF are often incorrectly used interchangeably.

While they’re all about keeping your business safe, they do serve very different purposes, and understanding the difference is essential for keeping your building compliant, protected, and safe.

If you're responsible for a commercial building, you've probably heard the term IQP. But what does it actually mean?

An Independent Qualified Person (IQP) is approved to inspect, maintain and report on a building's specified systems, including fire alarms, emergency lighting, sprinkler systems and fire extinguishers.

Their work helps ensure these systems continue to perform as intended and supports your annual Building Warrant of Fitness (BWOF).

At Fireco, our experienced IQPs help make the compliance process simple. Find out more on our website and secure your BWOF with ease: https://fireco.co.nz/services/independent-qualified-person-iqp-inspection/
