The Environmental awards just keep coming for D G Glenn Logging, this time for Crew 68, who have completed some exceptionally tidy and environmentally responsible harvesting in our Gwavas Forest. We were really impressed with the standard of their work and level of care taken to ensure nearby streams were clear of harvest debris. As a small thank you for their efforts, the crew tucked into a KFC lunch on us. Cheers Crew 68! 🍗💪

Kia ora everyone, due to a combination of some very wet weather and operational delays, the Kaweka (Twin) Lakes car park and Mackintosh Track will remain closed until 15 September while we complete harvesting activities in the area. We had originally hoped to have works completed by the end of this month but have unfortunately been delayed.

The public can still access Kuripapango Hill and the Tūtaekurī River Track via the temporary car park further back along the road, but Mackintosh Track remains closed.

We have worked hard to facilitate keeping access open as much as possible, with friendly track wardens in place full time during operational hours to ensure safe passage on the Kuripapango Hill and Tūtaekurī River tracks. The wardens will remain in place to safely es**rt walkers through active work areas where required.

On Friday, we welcomed staff from Hawke's Bay Regional Council on a field trip to our Gwavas Forest. During the visit we showed them silviculture and pruning, cyclone recovery works (such as culvert replacement), fish passage improvements, freshwater ecology and discussed harvesting and slash management and consent requirements, as well as biomass utilisation and bioenergy research. We also talked about High Conservation Value (HCV) areas, wetland management and predator trapping.

It was a great opportunity to have some open and honest kōrero about responsible forest management and connect with council across multiple areas of interest. We even had a visit from a very special local – a Kārearea (native NZ falcon)!

Yesterday, we presented D G Glenn Logging crew 73 with an Environmental Award for their continued excellence in harvesting operations in consented blocks – namely the Waipari Woodlot last year and the harvest unit in Gwavas they recently completed. Crew 73 consistently deliver a clean and tidy cutover and take the time to ensure streams are free from harvest debris. In addition, they protected a kārearea (native falcon) nest last summer. The crew enjoyed a feed of KFC for lunch to thank them for their efforts. Kai pai crew 73! 👏

We really enjoy sharing the work we do in our forests to protect people and the environment. Yesterday, we hosted 10 students and their teachers from Waiheke Island High School Primary Industries Academy on a sparkling crisp Hawke's Bay day. We showed them our QEII forest at Pākuratahi, the Mountain Bike Park on Pan Pac land and how automation is being used to keep people and the environment safe while harvesting.

🎉 Our brand-new Amenities Building is now open! 🎉
Today, we were delighted to officially open the building to our staff and contractors following 14 months of construction, led by our principal build partner Stead Construction. The decision to completely rebuild our support offices and amenities building came following Cyclone Gabrielle, which severely damaged the original buildings. This purpose-built facility has been designed to support comfort, connection, and collaboration, and is set to become the social hub of our Whirinaki site. It will soon be joined by an adjacent two-storey office building, which is scheduled for completion later this year. Special thanks to Architecture HDT, Stead Construction, engineers Aurecon, and all the contractors who have worked on this project to date.

We had an enjoyable day out in Omakere, Central Hawke’s Bay yesterday at the 2026 Pan Pac Farm Forester of the Year Field Day. This year’s winners, the Humphries Family, run an impressive multi-generational and multi-farm operation that combines productive sheep and beef farming with multi-species forestry and on-site sawmilling with a strong focus on conservation and wetland/native bush restoration. Thank you to the Hawke's Bay A&P Society and the Hawke's Bay Farm Forestry Association for putting on another great field day. The Pan Pac Farm Forester of the Year Award is a part of the annual Napier Port Hawke's Bay Primary Sector Awards, which celebrate excellence and innovation across the primary sector in our region.

It's always a pleasure joining the Discover Forestry team to deliver the Wood is Good programme to local tamariki. Shout out to our awesome staff and contractors for taking the time to talk about forestry and show the kids around a log truck - always a highlight of the day!

Electric fishing! We teamed up with our contractor M.W Lissette to do a spot of electric fishing to safely relocate hundreds of fish before reinstating a section of stream that had changed course during Cyclone Gabrielle.
