Salalah Beach one among the 30 best beaches in the world

Condé Nest Traveller magazine has selected Salalah Beach in Dhofar Governorate among the 30 best beaches in the world, the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism said.

The Magazine stated: "There’s something Mad Max-esque about Al Mughsail, with its unflinchingly white sand, parched frankincense trees and cinematic blow holes (especially impressive during monsoon season) which erupt every couple of minutes, shaking the earth and spewing out seawater with a deafening sound. Stretching for four unbroken miles and fringed with sheer limestone cliffs, the beach is lapped by gleaming turquoise water which can get a little choppy at times. "

Ministry identifies 10 challenges of the labour market in Oman

“The market is free, and remains dependent on its non-Omani workforce,” said the ministry in its findings, adding that there needed to be a “focus on qualitative and not quantitative recruitment, due to the presence of localisation targets.”

A high job turnover among employees in the country, as well as the need to meet maximum sufficiency among workers in the government sector were two other issues raised by the Ministry of Labour, which also called for a reduction on relying on the government alone to achieve economic stimulation.

“There is an absence of a real private investment sector in the country, which is dependent on government projects,” the findings read. “Procedures to invest in the country are unclear and hinder investment.”

Investors are required to “rely on human intervention and constant negotiation” before they commit to projects in the country, added the ministry.

Construction of Oman-Australia subsea cable to start soon

The Australian-based company behind plans for the construction of a 9,800-km submarine cable linking Muscat with Perth, roughly half way around the globe, says the cable-laying phase of the intercontinental project will kick off in March this year.

Sub.co announced this week that production of fibre optic cable covering the entire length of the trans-oceanic route has been completed, with the first consignment currently being loaded onto a freighter for transfer to the main cable-laying ship.

In a series of media interviews to mark the milestone, Bevan Slattery, founder of Sub.Co, said the imminent start of the cable-laying phase came at the end of immense challenges unleashed by the pandemic over the course of 2020 – challenges that Sub.co and its partners were able to surmount nevertheless, he noted.
“2020 has been an extraordinarily challenging year to commit to building a cable of this scale, but I am delighted that we have achieved 100 per cent of cable production and completed the first load system assembly testing within the original product schedule.

Oman achieves 72 per cent Omanisation in Ministry of Health

The Sultanate has achieved an Omanisation rate of 72 per cent in the Ministry of Health, with a total worker count of 39,413, His Excellency Ahmed Al Saidi, the Minister of Health said in a statement to the Shura Council on Sunday. In 2016, this amount was 69 per cent.
