500+ Highland Champs from Oman!
Recently High Places conducted yet another Highland Champs a specially designed Camp for Children from Oman from 20th to 23rd June 2019 at Garudmaachi.
We are extremely thrilled share this landmark camp as it crossed 500+ mark, to be precise 525 children from Oman have attended the camp at Garudmaachi in batches since June 2008.
In 2007 High Places, the pioneers of Outbound Experiential Learning in India partnered with BTME Oman to spread this concept of Experiential Learning to the Corporates and Schools in Oman. The first Outdoor based Management Development Programme was conducted for Senior Managers from Bank Muscat in the mountains of Jabal al Akhdar. Subsequently on 16th of June 2008, a batch of 12 students of ISGI (Indian School Ghubra International) from Sultanate of Oman arrived at Garudmaachi the flagship training centre of High Places, Pune in Tamhini Ghat. This was the first Highland Champs batch for Oman Children.
While High Places specializes in Management Programmes for Corporates, Children Camps have always been of great interest to High Places. Highland Champs a meaningful, sleek and evocative programme is designed by none other than the master of experiential and child education, Mrunal Paranjape, Managing Director of High Places. The camps help instill positive and quality virtues in children through a ‘Fun & Learn’ experiential model. ‘Highland Champs’ the children camps are conducted by ‘Western Highlanders’ a division of High Places for children of age 8 to 13 years.
Ms. Anagha & Dr. Shirish Gupte of BTME, Oman, need a special mention for their rigor, efforts and perseverance. Reaching out and spreading the benefits of these camps to schools in Oman, answering the numerous questions from parents and teachers about taking children out of Oman to Garudmaachi, India has required great patience and belief in the experiential medium.
So far BTME and High Places (Western Highlanders) have conducted number of Highland Champ Batches for Children from Oman at Garudmaachi . There have been few Open batches and School camps for the following seven Schools from Oman - Indian School Sohar, Indian School Nizwa, Indian School Wadikabir, Indian School Darsait, Indian School Muscat, Indian School Ghubra and Indian School Ghubra International.
High Places and BTME are grateful to the faith these Schools and parents have shown in sending their children so far for the camps. We too are committed to the experiential medium, to the outdoors, the nature and to provide safe and enjoyable experiences that help people/children learn and grow. We earnestly believe that ‘Cognitive processing and academic performance depend on regular meaningful breaks from concentrated classroom learning.’ We are always and more than happy to provide this opportunity to children.
These 500+ smiling faces make us feel proud and they are the source of our energy that strengthen our belief and keeps us going. We wish all the Highland Champs the very best to reach High Places in their lives and be great human beings!!!

Himankan 2016

BTME and Western Highlanders (a division of High Places) completed a trek to Tungnath the highest Shiva temple in the world in the Garhwal Himalayas today.

The trek started with Whitewater rafting in the mighty Ganges at Rishikesh. We did a 10+ kilometer stretch going through 3 main rapids. Of course the rafting trip included more than a couple of dips in the river. The same day we reached Ukimath. Interestingly, Ukimath is the winter seat of Kedarnath and Madhyamaheshwar. The trek to Deoriya tal saw most of us get our first experience of camping in tents. The view of Chaukhamba, Kedarnath, Satopanth and Neelkanth was breath taking. The tent camp with the lake and peaks made the place look enchanting. The Tungnath trek was a little tough and saw us reach almost 12,000 feet. We were treated to more expansive views of the peaks. Then the thunderstorm hit us. Thunder and lightning kept many of us awake that night. Morning saw us start early and a little apprehensively. But what a sight awaited us. The skies cleared up for quite a while and we got some incredible views of the mighty peaks. We reached Chopta and went further down to Ukimath. The Kalimath trek gave many of us our first experience of river crossing by a cradle. We were quite excited.

Our group comprised of kids from Oman from the American British Academy Muscat, the Indian School Sohar, the Indian School Muscat, the Indian School Wadi Kabir and the Indian School al Ghubra (CBSE International). We also had an ex-Indian School Nizwa graduate who is pursuing her post graduate studies in Management. What a diverse group. Would it gel... Not only did it gel but caring, sharing and helping each other the group completed the trek successfully.

The trekking experts, Nirmal Khare and Pancham Kelkar, made sure that the participants got to know the do's and don'ts. Mrs. Anagha Gupte who co-ordinated the trek made sure everyone was safe and cared for. Doctor Gupte's trekking and mountaineering tales kept everyone enthralled in the evenings.

We saw the sangam of Alaknanda and Mandakini at Rudraprayag and the sangam of Bhagirathi and Alaknanda at Devprayag which then becomes the might Ganges.

All in all a fantastic trek. Three Cheers to Himankan 2016.
