Hace cuatro años comenzamos con una idea. Hoy esa idea está tomando forma.

Miles de botellas de vidrio que un día fueron consideradas basura iniciaron un nuevo viaje. Un proceso de trabajo, innovación y compromiso que demuestra que, cuando una comunidad cree en el reciclaje, los residuos pueden convertirse en oportunidades.

Este es solo el comienzo de la historia...

Hace cuatro años acepté el reto de dirigir Unidos por Bocas, S.A. y Bocas Recycle Center.

Desde aquel primer día comprendí que esta no sería únicamente la responsabilidad de administrar una organización. Era el compromiso de construir un proyecto capaz de demostrar que el reciclaje, la economía circular y la protección de nuestros ecosistemas pueden transformar comunidades y generar oportunidades para las presentes y futuras generaciones.

Al mirar hacia atrás, siento una profunda gratitud.

Nada de lo que hemos alcanzado habría sido posible sin el respaldo de los miembros de nuestra Junta Directiva, de los directivos y gerentes de empresas que creyeron en nuestra visión, de las organizaciones aliadas, de las instituciones gubernamentales, de las autoridades regionales y locales, de los líderes que nos brindaron su apoyo desde sus diferentes responsabilidades, y de cada persona que, con acciones grandes o pequeñas, decidió caminar junto a nosotros.

Mi agradecimiento más sincero también a nuestro extraordinario equipo de colaboradores, voluntarios, estudiantes, residentes, clientes, familiares y amigos. Ustedes han demostrado que cuando una comunidad decide trabajar unida por un propósito común, los resultados trascienden cualquier expectativa.

Durante estos cuatro años hemos reciclado más de 330,000 de libras de materiales, impulsado nuevos proyectos de economía circular, promovido la educación ambiental, desarrollado productos con materiales reciclados y fortalecido alianzas que hoy nos permiten mirar el futuro con más esperanza que nunca.

Pero estoy convencido de que lo mejor aún está por venir.

Seguiremos trabajando con la misma pasión, compromiso y convicción para que Bocas del Toro continúe siendo un referente nacional e internacional en sostenibilidad, innovación y economía circular.

Este aniversario no es mío. Es de todos los que han creído que un cambio positivo sí es posible.

Gracias por estos primeros cuatro años de historia.

Four years ago, I accepted the privilege and responsibility of leading Unidos por Bocas, S.A. and Bocas Recycle Center.

From that very first day, I understood that this would be far more than managing an organization. It was a commitment to build a project capable of demonstrating that recycling, the circular economy, and the protection of our ecosystems have the power to transform communities and create opportunities for both present and future generations.

As I look back today, I do so with deep gratitude.

None of what we have achieved would have been possible without the unwavering support of our Board of Directors, the business leaders who believed in our vision, our partner organizations, regional and local government institutions, public officials, and community leaders who supported us in countless ways. Most importantly, it would not have been possible without every individual who chose to walk this journey alongside us.

My heartfelt thanks also go to our extraordinary team of employees, volunteers, students, residents, customers, family and friends. Together, you have proven that when a community unites around a common purpose, the results can exceed every expectation.

Over these four years, we have recycled more than 300 thousands pounds of materials, advanced innovative circular economy initiatives, promoted environmental education, developed products made from recycled materials, and strengthened partnerships that allow us to look toward the future with greater hope than ever before.

Yet I am convinced that our greatest achievements are still ahead of us.

We will continue working with the same passion, commitment, and determination to ensure that Bocas del Toro remains a national and international benchmark for sustainability, innovation, and the circular economy.

This anniversary is not mine. It belongs to everyone who has believed that positive change is possible.

Thank you for being part of these first four years of our journey.

Hay historias que nacen en lugares pequeños... pero terminan inspirando al mundo.

Hace apenas unos años, hablar de economía circular, restauración de arrecifes de coral y recuperación de residuos en un archipiélago como Bocas del Toro parecía un sueño demasiado grande.

Hoy, ese sueño está siendo contado por RAI3, la televisión pública de Italia.

Su equipo cruzó el océano para conocer una historia que demuestra que el cambio no depende del tamaño de una ciudad, del presupuesto de una organización o de la cantidad de personas involucradas. Depende de una idea, de la perseverancia y de la decisión de nunca rendirse.

Durante su visita recorrieron nuestros manglares, navegaron por nuestras aguas y ecosistemas, conocieron el trabajo del Caribbean Coral Restoration Center y visitaron Bocas Recycle Center, donde pudieron ver cómo aquello que muchos consideran basura puede convertirse en nuevos productos, nuevos materiales, nuevas estructuras, nuevas oportunidades y, sobre todo, en esperanza para nuestras comunidades y nuestros ecosistemas.

Lo que más nos llena de orgullo no es que una cadena internacional haya venido hasta aquí. Lo verdaderamente importante es que el mundo comienza a mirar hacia Bocas del Toro como un ejemplo de que sí es posible construir un futuro diferente.

Cada botella reciclada.
Cada libra de vidrio recuperada.
Cada estación de reciclaje instalada.
Cada estructura colocada bajo el mar.
Cada coral que vuelve a crecer.

Todo forma parte de una misma historia.

La historia de personas convencidas de que proteger nuestro planeta no es una obligación... es un privilegio.

A todos nuestros colaboradores, voluntarios, aliados, patrocinadores, instituciones y amigos que han creído en este proyecto desde el primer día: este reconocimiento también les pertenece.

Seguiremos trabajando con la misma pasión y la misma convicción que nos ha traído hasta aquí.

Some stories begin in small places... but end up inspiring the world. 🌎💚

Just a few years ago, talking about a circular economy, coral reef restoration, and waste recovery in an archipelago like Bocas del Toro seemed like an ambitious dream.

Today, that dream is being told by RAI3, Italy's national public television network.

Their team crossed the Atlantic to witness a story that proves real change is not determined by the size of a city, the budget of an organization, or the number of people involved. It is driven by an idea, by perseverance, and by the determination to never give up.

During their visit, they explored our mangrove forests, navigated our beautiful waters and ecosystems, learned about the work of the Caribbean Coral Restoration Center, and visited Bocas Recycle Center, where they saw firsthand how materials that many consider waste can be transformed into new products, new resources, new structures, new opportunities, and, above all, hope for our communities and our environment.

What fills us with the greatest pride is not that an international television network came all the way to Bocas del Toro.

What truly matters is that the world is beginning to recognize Bocas del Toro as a place where innovative, community-driven solutions are proving that a more sustainable future is possible.

Every bottle recycled.
Every pound of glass recovered.
Every recycling station installed.
Every marine structure deployed.
Every coral that begins to grow again.

They are all part of the same story.

The story of people who believe that protecting our planet is not simply a responsibility—it is a privilege.

To our staff, volunteers, partners, sponsors, institutions, and everyone who has believed in this journey from the very beginning: this recognition belongs to you as well.

We will continue working with the same passion and commitment that has brought us this far.

Hace dos años, Camila Aybar ayudó a poner el trabajo de Bocas Recycle Center en el mapa nacional e internacional, mostrando a Panamá que desde Bocas del Toro también se podían impulsar soluciones reales frente al problema de los residuos.

Hoy, Camila regresa para contar una historia que ha seguido creciendo.

💚 Bocas Recycle Center continúa demostrando que los residuos no son el final de una historia, sino el comienzo de nuevas oportunidades. A través del reciclaje, la innovación y la economía circular, seguimos transformando materiales que antes terminaban contaminando nuestro entorno.

💙 Pero esta vez la historia también llega al mar.

Junto al Caribbean Coral Restoration Center, esos materiales reciclados se convierten en parte de soluciones para rehabilitar y fortalecer los ecosistemas marinos, sentando las bases para la restauración de los arrecifes de coral y la protección de uno de los patrimonios naturales más valiosos de nuestro planeta.

♻️🌎 Estudiantes de intercambio visitaron Bocas Recycle Center

El pasado 30 de mayo, tuvimos el agrado de recibir la visita de 20 estudiantes de secundaria provenientes de los Estados Unidos, quienes participaron en una jornada educativa en las instalaciones de Bocas Recycle Center (BRC).

Los jóvenes forman parte de un programa de intercambio y voluntariado coordinado por la organización Give & Surf, mediante el cual apoyan diversas iniciativas comunitarias y tienen la oportunidad de conocer de cerca la realidad social y ambiental de Bocas del Toro.

Durante el recorrido, los estudiantes aprendieron sobre el funcionamiento de nuestro centro de reciclaje, los procesos de clasificación y recuperación de materiales, así como los desafíos que enfrentan las comunidades insulares en el manejo adecuado de los residuos sólidos.

También pudieron observar cómo materiales como vidrio, plástico, cartón, aluminio y Tetra Pak pueden reincorporarse a la economía circular, reduciendo el impacto ambiental y contribuyendo a la conservación de nuestros ecosistemas.

En Bocas Recycle Center creemos que la educación ambiental es una inversión en el futuro. Cada visita representa una oportunidad para crear conciencia, inspirar nuevas acciones y fortalecer el compromiso de las nuevas generaciones con la protección del planeta.

♻️🌎 Exchange Students Visit Bocas Recycle Center

On May 30th, we had the pleasure of welcoming 20 high school students from the United States to Bocas Recycle Center (BRC) for an educational and hands-on learning experience.

The students are participating in an exchange and volunteer program coordinated by Give & Surf, which provides opportunities to support community initiatives while gaining a deeper understanding of the social and environmental realities of Bocas del Toro.

During their visit, the students learned about the operation of our recycling center, the processes involved in sorting and recovering recyclable materials, and the unique challenges island communities face in managing solid waste responsibly.

They also had the opportunity to see how materials such as glass, plastic, cardboard, aluminum, and Tetra Pak can be recovered and reintroduced into the circular economy, helping reduce environmental impacts while protecting our valuable marine and terrestrial ecosystems.

At Bocas Recycle Center, we believe environmental education is an investment in the future. Every visit is an opportunity to raise awareness, inspire action, and strengthen the commitment of younger generations to environmental stewardship.

We extend our sincere thanks to Give & Surf for including us in this educational experience and for their continued dedication to community development and sustainability in Bocas del Toro.
