A lot of people ask why they’re called “Chilean Mills.”

The design originated in Chile, where these robust grinding mills became widely used throughout the mining industry because of their simplicity, reliability and ability to process mineral ore efficiently.

Today, they’re used across many parts of South America and continue to play an important role in mineral processing.

At Chaparra Minerals, the engineering team doesn’t just operate these mills—they build them from scratch and expertly refurbish second-hand units, giving them a new lease of life and preparing them for many more years of service.

This is the first in a three-part series showcasing the craftsmanship, engineering and dedication behind these remarkable machines.

📖 From Opportunity to Operation – Part 2

🔧 A new lease of life.

After countless hours of skilled engineering, fabrication and refurbishment, the old ball mill was transformed into what is now one of the key pieces of equipment at the Chaparra Minerals processing plant.

Bringing it back into service required far more than a simple repair. It demanded technical expertise, commitment and a belief that investing in quality refurbishment could deliver long-term value.

Today, that same ball mill is proudly installed on site, playing an important role as the plant continues to scale up its operations.

It’s another reminder that success isn’t always about buying something new…

Sometimes it’s about recognising potential, investing in it and giving it a second life.

Never give up. Great things take time.

While many may have overlooked it, the team saw something different—an opportunity.

They knew it would take a tremendous amount of engineering expertise, time, effort and investment to completely refurbish the mill, but they also knew it had the potential to play a key role in the future of the processing plant.

Sometimes the greatest opportunities aren’t the newest…

Then came the moment everyone had been waiting for…

After years of planning, perseverance and overcoming every challenge along the way, the vision finally started to become reality.

Equipment began arriving on site. Construction gathered momentum. The processing plant slowly started taking shape as one major milestone followed another.
