The intense rainfall that occurred last night has resulted in significant damage to our Goroka Natural Habitat site, which serves as the primary location for our operations.

Regrettably, both the staff house and the guest house, utilized for accommodating international volunteers, have been severely impacted by a landslide, leading to their destruction.

Fortunately, there have been no casualties reported, and it is worth noting that the processing facility remains unharmed amidst the devastation.

In a positive development, Mr. Kelly Inae and his family are safe and have sought refuge in the processing facility during this challenging time.

Meet Kelly Inae, the bee whisperer! With over two decades of experience in beekeeping, Kelly has honed his skills and become an expert in the industry. His passion for these little creatures is infectious and you'll be amazed at how much you'll learn about their importance in the ecosystem when he speaks.

Kelly's journey in beekeeping started way back when he was in the 4th grade, but it wasn't until the early 2000s when he took it more seriously and established 'Helping Hand Honey Producers'. Since then, he has trained over 3000 farmers and has become one of the most influential figures in the industry.

The business model of the Helping Hand Honey Producers focuses on empowering family units, women, and youths through high-quality apiculture training and monitoring programs that generate income and help them improve their standard of living. These activities are in line with UN SDG 8 on Decent Work and Economic Growth, specifically on targets 8.5 on full employment and decent work with equal pay and 8.6 on promoting youth empowerment, education, and training.

Mr. Kelly Inae, the founder of Helping Hand Honey Producers, has led beekeeping training programs in the Highlands and Momase regions, training over 3000 beekeeping and honey farmers since 2006. Helping Hand Honey Producers’ local and international collaborations with government agencies, academic institutions, and non-governmental organizations is in accordance with SDG 17 Partnerships for goals. Mr. Inae co-written a book titled "Beekeeping in the Eastern Highlands of Papua New Guinea" as a result of these collaborations.

Helping Hand Honey Producers encourages women to take the lead in beekeeping and to participate in the two annual trainings, which contributes to SDG 5 Gender Equality. The natural habitat at the Helping Hand Honey Producers’ head office provides a safe haven for the bees, reducing bee swarming. In addition, as part of Helping Hand Honey Producers’ contributions to the SDG 15 Life on Earth, Kelly Inae has planted over 100 different types of plants. Helping Hand Honey Producers was recently chosen by the USAID Lukim Graun Program to assist in the planting of trees in four provinces of Papua New Guinea.
