How is PNG doing on the exchange rate?
Just a simple Google search shows that it is around 0.21USD.
There are many factors that affect why it is what it is today, however we will not look at that for today. I believe a lot of sites have covered that area.
We will look at the impacts of a dropping in value of the PNG Kina. And mind you, it is dropping at a speed not comparable to the last 30 years, in such a short period of time. It was once at 0.39.
One of the key impacts is the price of goods, or essentials as we know them.
Rice, Tinned Fish, Cooking Oil, Sugar, Butter, Flour, Bread, Biscuits.
Most if not all these products are heavily reliant on imported raw materials and products. That is one of the key factors related to the impact on the value of the Kina. We are an Import dependent nation.
A simple example is white sliced bread. It used to be between K3 and K5 a loaf. Now it is around K6 to K10.
Why is the Kina depreciating against the USD? How can we alleviate this? Who is responsible?
We can look at those questions and more further.
Have a better day!
