Albey Education Consultancy Services

Albey Education Consultancy Services We see the need to educate fellow Papua New Guineans on the issues of conserving our environment and reviving and maintaining our rich cultural practises.

We believe we can contribute to make a difference through formal and informal educational programs. We seek to support and empower them in their cultural practises while being mindful of inevitable changes that may require adaptation. Our long term priorities include the establishment of a small resource and learning centre in which we can be able to support other learning programs. This includes

on-going environmental awareness and cultural revitalisation programs in schools and the community and the production of books to supplement curriculum documents of local schools. We have participated and co-ordinated smaller activities in relation to this project. Cor-ordination of various progarms include seabed mining awareness and World Water Monitering Day awareness, weeklong marine education program for grades 4 and 5, culture events in school and establishment of a small cultural group focused on traditional dance and art and craft. We also co- wrote a paper on Empowering Indigenous Communities in terms of marine conservation. The paper was presented at the International Pacific Marine Educators Network in Fiji 2010.

Our first project, a Cultural Revitalisation Project, has begun. The project aims at reviving traditional gardening practices for the people of Baluan Island. The project addresses two main concerns being food security and the revitalisation of traditional gardening practices that is slowly but surely dying out.

We thank The Christensen Fund for the grant for this project :)
