Way forward Farmset Ltd. and it's Madang Branch. Information and training are vital tools in enhancing farming, especially in livestock.

Many farmers lack this basic knowledge as it is a common constraint in their advancement towards achieving true entrepreneurship in agriculture.

Farmers in Madang were privileged to attend a piggery and poultry training, facilitated by Farmset Ltd at the Country Womens Association (CWA) conference room yesterday. The 30 participants were loyal Farmset customers selected at a fee of K20.00 to enhance their knowledge of farming.

The Cocoa Board presented an ambitious 2025 strategy, focusing on expanding production, improving quality control, and enhancing export opportunities.

A key initiative in 2025 will be establishing a regional hub for cocoa development in Jiwaka Province.

Cocoa Best Practice Farming!

While cocoa farmers today enjoy the current cocoa prices, not all will truly enterprise out of this opportunity due to production and yield incapacity.

During my tenure in the cocoa export industry, we have envisioned this long ago and have taken steps to address the issue of production through the Monpi Cocoa Exports sustainable services to prepare farmers and encourage them towards maximizing production with the knowledge that in the near future there will be a cocoa boom and PNG will face an explosion on prices. But how sustainable we are with cocoa production supply will be a question.

Below is a series of videos produced some thirteen years ago under the Monpi Cocoa Exports Sustainable Services training program as a training tool targeted to addressing Maximized Yeild and Sustainable Production.

This video has had a direct impact on farming concepts for cocoa farmers in the Madang Provine especially, Raicoast, Bogia, Usino Bundi and Sumkar Districts. This videos have also helped raised awareness on innovative and best farming practices that farmers can incorporate to achieve cost effective farming while increasing viability through maximised yeilds sustainably.

It is now a trend in start up poultry enterprises where suppliers of day old chicks are selling chicks at loose quantities at prices farmers reckon is affordable.

This practice is an advantage as it creates opportunity for a small startup especially for farmers who are interested in poultry enterprise but do not have the Capital for a full startup.

However, I believe the viability of this practice is yet to be tested when considering production costs, unit costs and quantity.

Therefore, MABC is trying out an analytical approach in meat bird production comparing production costs in relation to the quantity of birds.

This is to certify whether it is viable to produce meat birds with a production size of 10 loose birds purchased at around K8-K10 or buying a full box of day old chicks with 50 chicks at a cost of K220 per box while considering variables in production costs and quantity.
