From Looting Eliseo Hohola to Lining Up for Employment 🇵🇬
I drove past Eliseo in 8 mile today and I saw thousands of people, young men and women, standing in long lines under the sun. No connections. Just a walk-in interview. Everyone hoping for a job. Everyone desperate for income. Everyone trying to survive.
And I just shook my head.
Because this is the exact same Eliseo we burned down. This is the same shop we looted. This is the same business people destroyed during Black Wednesday, January 10. Back then, we were loud. We were angry. We were shouting for the government to step down. We said the Prime Minister must resign. We said ministers must go. We said the police minister must go. Then we burned shops like that would magically fix our lives.
What happened after all that noise? Nothing.
The government did not even change. The Prime Minister did not step down. Ministers did not even resign. Politicians went back to their comfortable lives. They ate, they laughed, they moved on. But the business we destroyed was gone. Jobs were gone. Families suffered. Workers were left with nothing.
Eliseo Group had to invest again. They rebuilt. Bigger. Stronger. From their own money. And now they are opening again and offering jobs. Real jobs. And today, thousands of Papua New Guineans are lining up, hoping Eliseo will employ them.
Let this sink in.
Did the government create these jobs? No. Did any politicians create these jobs? No. Did the Prime Minister create one million jobs after Black Wednesday? No.
A business did ! .The same business we burned down.
This is the stupid cycle we are trapped in.
We burn businesses when emotions are high. Then we beg those same businesses when reality hits. We follow crowds. We follow noise. We follow feelings. Easy to control. Easy to manipulate. No thinking. Just reaction.
Politicians will never feed you. Government speeches won’t employ you. Opposition talk won’t pay your rent. These businesses are the ones giving jobs. These businesses are the ones keeping people alive.
Stop listening to politicians, both government and opposition. They use you when it suits them. When they get power, they forget you. When they lose power, they cry corruption. Same story, different year.
You and I will always be the ones suffering. Always lining up. Always looking for jobs. Always struggling.
So next time emotions rise, remember Eliseo Hohola. Remember this line of thousands of desperate people. Remember that burning a shop burns your own future.
If we don’t learn this lesson now, we deserve the suffering we keep choosing.
