SVRI Foundations of Data Equity: Live Interactive Online Workshop for SVRI Members

The SVRI Foundations of Data Equity for violence against women (VAW) and violence against children (VAC) research is an introductory course in which we teach you how to apply the Data Equity Framework, a seven-step approach to identifying, making, defending, and celebrating your data process decisions in a way that is congruent with your equity priorities.

The course is delivered over two live 3-hour online sessions. It is delivered webinar-style to ensure that people can learn in a private setting if preferred.

This course is designed for people conducting research, people working with researchers, and people who make funding, strategic, and resource decisions based on research.

Benefits of the Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLA)

VSLA is a tried, tested and approved approach that is used by international development programs to address poverty and other socio-economic issues affecting low income countries.

It has been used as an integrated project to economic empowerment programs to address gender inequality, youth unemployment as well as integrated agriculture, aquaculture and horticultural activities to teach communal societies and families (including couples) about the importance of budgeting and savings (financial literacy) in order to address poverty in communities, families and local organisations and associations.

It has also been used in communities affected by man-made or natural Disasters to help families and communities address poverty and rebuild their lives through saving as a group.

It truly is a "no-man-is-an-island" concept.

Making informed decisions requires regularly updated evidence on social, demographic and economic data. In Papua, there is still alot of challenges and constraints that continue to impede evidence based decision making in the public sector as well as the international development sector.

This recent paper uncovers some of these barriers within PNG's public governance sector. A very timely article for those working in the public sector and the international development sector to read and inform themselves of these challenges.
